I read Annie Proulx's book of short stories called Bad Dirt, excellent.
Haven't read any of her other stuff, just an article totally demolishing the myth of cowboys in the wild west - apparently it was at most ever like that for 20 years, and of course there were no women. Actually I haven't read it, but there is a depressing factual book about the lives of prostitutes in the wild west, many committed suicide.

i was reading thomas hurlimann's "mademoiselle stark" (original title is fraulein stark)... it's very boring to me... after one of the world wars, in germany, a teenangers is working in a library. His task is to dress ppl's feet with special sandals to enter the library in, so the place remains clean... he starts to look at women's feet & dares to try & see more... his uncle (if i understood correctly) is the head librarian. lady stark works for him ; she cleans & cooks. As a christian, she's very shocked at the teenanger loking at women with envy, and tries to convince his uncle educate him in accordance to the precepts... instead, he brings his protégé to a restaurant where they eat all kind of nasty omni stuff & drink a lot... and even have racial/ antisemetic talks...
mrs stark is so offended, she stops working and passes a few days staying away, kneeting the teenanger's socks for his upcomign departure to a christian shcool....
after he weeps at bosom & promises not to sin anymore, she stops being angry & works once again... zzzzzzzzzzz i grew tired of this so i switched books to a collection of short stories by some guy called hanokh levin... i loved the first short, its just a page, a parody of the genesis's creation of the world in 6 days...
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said “Let there be light” ! and everything remained dark. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the evening and the morning were the first day. And God got up on the second day and said “let there be light” ! And the evening and the morning were the second day. And God got up on the third day and said, “for the third and last time, let there be light” ! And the evening and the morning were the third day. God remained quiet on the fourth and fifth days. And, on the sixth day, God got up and shouted “Or I’m God, or I’m not, let there be light, damn it !” And a very small light ignited at a building’s window, and a man in pajamas leaned out and said “who wakes us up in the middle of the night shouting he’s God?”

I've just finished the third part of Trudi Canavan's 'The Age of Five' trilogy (Voices of the Gods). It's not due out in the UK until July but I couldn't wait that long, so ordered an American copy. It's got a quite hideous cover - I might sell it on Ebay and buy a pretty British version when it comes out. Anyway, I can recommend it if you're into a bit of escapism. Her 'Black Magician' trilogy is very good too.
I'm halfway through a biography of Catherine The Great now. She was a fascinating woman, but I'm not sure the writer really does her subject justice. I'm going to read a bio of one of her lovers, Potemkin, next and see how it compares.

i'm almost done with that levin short stories, most of them analyse stupid human social behaviors and quite repetitve, even obsessive over topics such as death and un-erotica & sex. It gets quite boring and has too many disgusting passages, so i decided to jump over several stories and have come to 2 thirds of the book done with... in the meantime, i started 2 other books :
robert zoller's "The Arabic Parts in Astrology: The Lost Key to Prediction" which is interesting but has to be read in segments, so while digesting all the esoteric details of it, i'm also reading about the biorhythms, altho i know most of it already... i diagree with many of the author's statements, so far... i should be done with it in a couple days... then, i got around 25 books waiting LOL

lool squirrel... yea, those books are heavy, levin was too obsessive & repetitive... i've got less than a third of his coleceted short stories to read to be done, and, if i go on skipping some of them, i'll be done by this weekend lol
finished the book on biorhythms ; was quite a waste of my time since i haven't learned anything of substance. I disagree with the author on many important points and he seems to be anti-astrology, which, for me, is way more precise than biorhythms alone... oh well, at least i haven't paid anything for this book nor the levin one, took them at work.

No, there aren't many. In fact, I can't think of any others apart from Tryss's development of his hunting weapon. There is at least one more scene where Tryss hunts, but you can always skim over that part.
There are a couple of battle scenes where some animals are involved. I can't really advise you whether to continue with the books, as I don't know how much that would upset you, but there isn't a great deal of that kind of thing going on in them.

i think i shall continue then & skip the next hunting... battles ? all those humans can die guess i'll do like with the klingons, turn my eye away, as the story does seem captivating... however, i'll finish my 4 astrology books before resuming, LOL... altho, i got several books i put aside at work, so i'll finish them as well.. um... i'll be done with the age of five trilogy in 6 months LOL ;D (got 25 books to read am such a nerd LOL) thanx for your input No, there aren't many.
