Hi everyone,
Just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Sal and have been veggie for about a year but I've just gone vegan.
I don't know any other vegans and most of the people who I've told so far have looked at me like I'm an alien!
I look forward to chatting with people that understand!

Hi Sal, if you are all alone as a vegan it is also a good idea to check out with the Vegan Soc who your nearest vegan contact is, so you can also meet some real-life vegans in your own area. I am sure there will be some and there might even be a group not too far away! We certainly understand!

Thanks everyone. Yesterday my mum told me that without honey industry there would be no bees as they'd be extinct!!! And then when I said to my dad I didn't want a coat made of wool he said "what a load of bollocks"! I'm back living with them for a bit until I find a new place so I'm just biting my tongue for a couple of months!!

Ooooh, I would've gone off on a right rant about the bees! What about all the native pollinators all over the world that have been displaced by honeybees? etc, etc.
Anyhow, welcome to the forum, and don't let em get you down.

My dad's like that too. Mother's politely bewildered about the whole thing and Father's openly contemptuous. It's a good thing we all have each other, so we know we're not mad.

Dear vegans, I'm very surprised to see all this vegan posting going on, it's pretty cool! I'm Daisy and I'm not a very new vegan but I don't have any vegan friends so I've come to say hello. My friends are usually nice about my veganism, although I am universally referred to as 'the vegan' . I also find that people I meet look at me like I'm mad/an alien Sal. Hope you are all well x

Hey everyone,
I'm Matt, 25, and I've been vegetarian for years due to ethical and half-baked religious reasons.... I feel it's time I faced up to the fact I can't continue eating egg or milk products considering how much they support the meat industry.
Veganism seems to be a massive leap for me - mostly due to a lazy Quorn addiction, because I find most soya milk tastes like soil, and life without Heinz Salad Cream seems somewhat bleak. (I accept these are selfish and feeble reasons, which is why I'm looking to change all that.)
That's it really - hope everyone's well.
Take care,
Matt

welcome to EV Matt, Hope the transition to veganism goes ok. fortunatley there are many soya alternatives to Quorn, its just a case of trying the different products to find what you like. Same goes for Soya milk, i cant stand the stuff and live without it, but there are many different tasting ones, the alpro 'fresh' ones are supposed to be nice. there are also other types of 'milk', rice, quinoea erm....probably more types too ;D tesco'c healthy living salad cream is a winner ;D hope the weird people here (except me) can help you make the switch!

Hi Matt. The So Good variety of soya milk may be more to your taste than the Alpro ones. It's sweetened and doesn't have that beany taste. My favourite type of milk is Rice Dream's rice, hazelnut and almond milk.
Good luck.

Hi Matt, Try going cold turkey on the milk thing for a while and then using soya milk a few weeks later. Sometimes not trying to directly replace one thing with another does the trick As the others say - try loads of different varieties too - everyone has their favourite!

Thanks all.
I happened to buy some So Good after work today anyway and I think I'll stick with it - it's nice enough to drink from the carton and it doesn't make tea completely rancid... that's about all I can ask for!
