I did my weight training leg work on Sunday. I only do hack squats for my legs, and cardiovascular things in between sets to keep my heart going at a fair pace.
I do sets of 4 or 5 reps for my upper body but for my legs I do 9 -11 reps. On the first rep of the first set my right knee seemed to move sideways, as if the joint was unstable. I have experienced this before. I have a torn cartilage in both knees. There was no pain so I continued. Strangely, I could only do 6 reps before my grip started to weaken. For the next three sets I only managed about 4 or 5 repititions. My grip was really weak. My legs were still strong but my hands let me down. My knee felt a bit strange when I was having a bath but there was no pain. The next day, my knee was painful and stiff. I had to hobble about. It is very much better today. I thought that the cartilage might have popped out of position but it is unlikely to have done so. If it had, it would be painful for a week or two. I think that the joint was a bit wonky and putting it under such intense pressure caused swelling and stiffness. If it happens again, I will stop immediately. It was lucky that my grip was weak or I would have done more reps and might have done more damage. Perhaps my hands were more sensible than me.

Ouch! that sounds nasty Martin. Hack Squats are a bit hardcore though arent they! I was too tired to run today, so I stationery biked on the mountain setting for 20 mins, did some weights and went home!

Yay, you're both doing really well Gliondrach and Tabi.
Have you ever tried accupuncture for pain relief Gliondrach? That may help.
I stepped up my running today and did about 35 mins of interval training....... part walk, part running, saw a deer in the park run in front of us and tripped over a rabbit hole..... All in all quite a funny evening!

Tabi, I find hack squats quite easy. Not having a rack, I can't safely put a heavy bar on my shoulders. Well, putting it there would be all right but as I begin to tire I might have to put it down quickly and it would smash the floor boards.
Tiggs, there's no pain now. When one of my knees gives me trouble it only hurts when I put pressure on it. Sometimes I can shock the cartilage back into place by doing side leg raises very quickly. Sometimes I put my hand out to catch against my leg just above the knee. This will rock the joint sideways a bit to allow the torn piece of cartilage to go back into position.
Don't fall down any rabbit holes or you could find yourself in a strange world.

Am glad you aren't in any pain Gliondrach.......... That's the main thing. I think we all have our weak spots that hurt when we exercise. I know mine is my left knee after a skating injury when I used to have lessons.
Ah yes, Alice in Wonderland.......... I thought it would be quite fun to have tea with the mad hatter and the cheshire cat!

Yesterday I got loadddddddds of exercise. We went up to the New Forest and went out on the mountain bikes for about an hour and a half up and down some very bumpy hills and narrow paths...... then walking round the Isle of Wight for a couple of hours!
Slept very well though!

The way Womble puts it, it sounds more like I had a dodgy curry, not that I have a simple innocent saddle sore! ROFL!
Hmmmmmmm, they should invent inflatable saddles with a ring in the middle that people that have piles get!

Good luck with the op, Tabi. When is it? We'll send you good thoughts.
I spoke too soon about my knee. It is still bothering me slightly and I haven't done any leg exercises since it started playing up. I will do some squat thrusts, side leg raises and some other things this evening. That should shake things up a bit and might put the cartilage back in place.

I flexed my credit card a bit too much today, I imagine the after pains will be mighty by the end of the month... perhaps if I do some gentle stretching with my debit card it will take some of the sting out.
