Just thought I'd share a brief story with you.
My mum is having some investigations at the moment due to severe stomach pains she has had recently that had her in A and E.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, they have found some sort of mass on ultrasound and I am backwards and forwards at the moment (infact am on the way over there this afternoon) to take her for hospital appointments so they can find out what the mass is.
She is concerned about what this mass is obviously and after discussing diet with her, last week she decided to give up meat and go veggie as we both thought it would help whatever condition she has, plus I have got her on steaming veggies, juicing etc....... Everything to boost her immune system up.
Whilst I am sorry she is ill, and will do everything in my power to get her better, I'm so pleased she's gone veggie. She had toyed with the idea for months after I kept showing her clips of what happens on factory farms.
Just thought I'd share the story with you all.

Great to hear your mum's gone veggi tiggs, really hope the mass is nothing to worry about and that the hospital can get her sorted out without too much stress.

Thanks Feral. Am off there in a minute actually armed with loads of carrots, apples etc to stuff in her juicer!
At least the hospital got her appointments really quick, which is surprising for the NHS!

Hope she gets better. It's a shame, in a sense, it took being ill to get her to turn veggie, but at least she's going in the right direction.

Well I took her to the hospital for her appointment yesterday. Turns out that the ultrasound shows that the mass is 11cm diameter........ which is a bit scary, but on a physical investigation the doc couldn't find it.
Anyway some blood tests were done for elevated tumor markers etc, so she should get the results in a week or so and she is to have a CT scan within 2 weeks and then they will make a decision what to do.
I'm really worried about her, but she's keeping strong. Took her out all day yesterday afterwards for lunch in a vegan restaurant and some shopping to take her mind off it, and she is making the first steps into going vegan now as she is now on soya milk and she has started buying soya yogurts (took her to Sainsburys) which can only be good for her health.

I hope your mother is all right, Tiggs. A switch to a vegan diet will help, whatever the cause of her condition is.
I'll be sending her good thoughts each day.

Thankyou all so much for the support everyone. It really means alot. Am sure she'll get through this OK as she is definitely a tough cookie is my mum! I have noticed that in the short space of time she has given up meat and is cutting down the dairy, the really scary bloating is slowly but surely bloating so I'm taking that as a sign that the diet is doing her good.

Well found out today that the CT scans show it is a mass and not just a cyst with fluid in on the ovaries and her tumor markers are raised on her blood tests so they are treating it as malignant and it appears to be ovarian cancer, so I am off to the hospital with her in the morning and she is going in hopefully on Monday for it to be removed, and then they will decide on the appropriate course of action and whether she needs chemo or radiotherapy.
I am trying to help out with some holistic treatment and she has asked me to do some reiki on her so hopefully that will help somewhat.
Anyway off to bed now everyone.... PC knackered, internet connection gone up the wall now....... GRrrrrrrrr! Early start to go and visit her in the morning.

I hope your Mother is bearing up, Tiggs. I'm sure your love for her will make your healing work really powerful.
Here are a couple of websites that may interest you. The Co-enzyme Q10 infor is about breast cancer but Q10 is thought to be useful in just about any type of cancer.
I'll be sending your Mother and you good thoughts.
Regards,
Martin.

I forgot the links www.healingcancernaturally.com/------------------------------------------ Biochem Biophys Res Commun. 1994 Mar 30;199(3):1504-8. Related Articles, Links Partial and complete regression of breast cancer in patients in relation to dosage of coenzyme Q10. Lockwood K, Moesgaard S, Folkers K. Pharma Nord, Vejle, Denmark. Relationships of nutrition and vitamins to the genesis and prevention of cancer are increasingly evident. In a clinical protocol, 32 patients having -"high-risk"- breast cancer were treated with antioxidants, fatty acids, and 90 mg. of CoQ10. Six of the 32 patients showed partial tumor regression. In one of these 6 cases, the dosage of CoQ10 was increased to 390 mg. In one month, the tumor was no longer palpable and in another month, mammography confirmed the absence of tumor. Encouraged, another case having a verified breast tumor, after non-radical surgery and with verified residual tumor in the tumor bed was then treated with 300 mg. CoQ10. After 3 months, the patient was in excellent clinical condition and there was no residual tumor tissue. The bioenergetic activity of CoQ10, expressed as hematological or immunological activity, may be the dominant but not the sole molecular mechanism causing the regression of breast cancer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------Clin Biochem. 2000 Jun;33(4):279-84. Related Articles, Links Coenzyme Q10 concentrations and antioxidant status in tissues of breast cancer patients. Portakal O, Ozkaya O, Erden Inal M, Bozan B, Kosan M, Sayek I. Department of Biochemistry, The Medical School of Osmangazi University, Eskisehir, Turkey. portakal@ada.net.tr OBJECTIVES: An increasing amount of experimental and epidemiological evidence implicates the involvement of oxygen derived radicals in the pathogenesis of cancer development. Oxygen derived radicals are able to cause damage to membranes, mitochondria, and macromolecules including proteins, lipids and DNA. Accumulation of DNA damages has been suggested to contribute to carcinogenesis. It would, therefore, be advantageous to pinpoint the effects of oxygen derived radicals in cancer development. DESIGN AND METHODS: In the present study, we investigated the relationship between oxidative stress and breast cancer development in tissue level. Breast cancer is the most common malignant disease in Western women. Twenty-one breast cancer patients, who underwent radical mastectomy and diagnosed with infiltrative ductal carcinoma, were used in the study. We determined coenzyme Q10 (Q) concentrations, antioxidant enzyme activities (mitochondrial and total superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), catalase), and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in tumor and surrounding tumor-free tissues. RESULTS: Q concentrations in tumor tissues significantly decreased as compared to the surrounding normal tissues (p < 0.001). Higher MDA levels were observed in tumor tissues than noncancerous tissues (p < 0.001). The activities of MnSOD, total SOD, GSH-Px and catalase in tumor tissues significantly increased (p < 0.001) compared to the controls. CONCLUSIONS: These findings may support that reactive oxygen species increased in malignant cells, and may cause overexpression of antioxidant enzymes and the consumption of coenzyme Q10. Increased antioxidant enzyme activities may be related with the susceptibility of cells to carcinogenic agents and the response of tumor cells to the chemotherapeutic agents. Administration of coenzyme Q10 by nutrition may induce the protective effect of coenzyme Q10 on breast tissue. www.aafp.org/afp/20050915/1065.html

Thankyou so much Gliondrach. Will buy her some of that. Have actually used that myself as was given it as treatment from my naturopath so will pick up a bottle of CoQ10 this week.
Thanks for the good wishes too and the links.

Thanks for asking Gliondrach and also thanks Feral for your kind words.
I took her in this afternoon and she has the op tomorrow afternoon. I spent most of the day with her and left her pretty optomistic, although when I spoke to her this evening, she was bored out of her mind as she is a bit of a technophobe bless her and couldn't get her tv to work to watch Corrie and the woman in the next bed had had a similar procedure done and it had gone wrong so my mum had flown into a bit of a panic.
Will be going to visit her tomorrow pm, so will report back then as to how she is.
Thanks for all the warm wishes once again everyone.
