Hi Horseless Paul and welcome to the forum.
Hope you like it here, we're a new, but growing in numbers weekly as on to the fourth week now, so its great to have you here.
Hope you enjoy posting and reading here. You're so lucky living in Brighton, not only are you by the sea, you're also only down the road from Vegetarian Shoes! Bet you shop in there?!
Quincy, loved your story of transitioning to veganism. Most vegans don't throw away all their old stuff straight away. My theory is I don't agree with waste so as everything wore out I bought vegan clothes, so I wouldn't get too worried about that. It is very hard for anyone to be 100% vegan, particularly at first, and I myself also have made mistakes and eaten something I shouldn't, which is why forums like these are great, as we can learn from each other.
Anyway, know I've already welcomed you, but great to see you here also again!

That's true - about vegans not throwing out/giving away all of their non-vegan clothing and accessory items overnight.
However, some vegans on a different site were kinda upset that I still wore shoes made with leather and told me I wasn't really a vegan... Anyway, I checked out Mooshoes.com and I found some really nice looking shoes for a good price! I will probably work on getting all new vegan-friendly clothing and accessory items this summer!

I like living in Brighton. There are lots of vegans and vegan aware shops. I don't get my shoes from Vegetarian Shoes because they have remained at a pemium price despite now being mass produced and with a subsequent loss of quality imo. I like veganstore.co.uk for footwear. quincy, you are doing the right thing ditching the leather. Vegans don't wear leather or have anything knowingly to do with animal products, new or not. Give your non-vegan stuff away to those who do not espouse veganism. Everybody wins then, no waste. Every time you appear to be hypocritical in the eyes of non-vegans, I believe it damages the validity of the argument. Leave that to the veggies... All the best, Paul.

I would give them away, but I'm a poor college student and am largely living off of loans right now. If you want to get technical, I will just refer to myself as a "dietary-vegan" to you for now on. I'm sorry that being vegan isn't as easy as most of us wish. If you wanna buy me some vegan clothing items, go ahead.

Personally, I'd wear plastic bags on my feet rather than leather until I could afford shoes. But that's my problem... Being vegan is a piece of piss as we say here, becoming vegan is sometimes more complicated. I am sorry if other boards gave you a hard time. It is an issue that comes up quite often. Cheers, Paul.

I remember when I first decided to become vegan. I did the food thing straight away (although made mistakes along the way), gave all my perfumes etc., to my best friend and gradually replaced all of my cleaning products. The clothes is a bit different. I had a leather coat which I stopped wearing and loads of wool jumpers which I gave to charity. Shoes however, were a bit different. They are so expensive, so it took a while to get rid of them all, and while I was in the process all the meat eaters really gave me grief about it. I got a lovely "fake" suede coat and then promptly never wored it because they would all say "aha so youre wearing suede" and I would have to explain that it wasnt suede. Very wearing I thought. You'll get there. Stick with it. After a few months everything will slot into place and you will be fine. Dont let people on other sites intimidate you though. Ive been got at a couple of times. I just tell them to p@ss off and I get on with doing what I think is right.

Don't worry Quincy, we won't give you a hard time. Any effort you put in should be commended, not criticised and it takes time to adjust.

Scrambled tofu is supposed to be a really good substitute for scrambled eggs, although I'm a tofu freak, I'm sure someone here has a good recipe....... Anyone??!!
Anyway, welcome all and enjoy posting and most importantly have fun!

Hello, Tiggerwoos and Bobbywomble. Thanks for the welcomes.
Hello and welcome, Ali. Don't stay on the verge - step right in. I'm not a great tofu eater but I have, on occasion, made scrambled tofu on toast. I mix it in a frying pan with soya milk, add mint and pepper, and then just heat up whilst stirring. I should think that slightly fried onions or garlic would be nice mixed in with it.
Regards,
Martin.
