I think this belongs on every vegan forum. "Once upon a time there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work. One day he was walking along the shore. As he looked down the beach, he saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself to think of someone who would dance to the day. So he began to walk faster to catch up. As he got closer, he saw that it was a young man, and the young man wasn't dancing but reaching down to the shore, picking up something and very gently throwing it into the ocean. ''Good morning! What are you doing?'' The young man paused looked up and said, ''Throwing starfish in the ocean'' '"Why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?'' ''The sun is up and the tide is going out and if I dont throw them in they'll die''. ''But young man, don't you realise that there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it? You can't possibly make a difference!'' The young man listened politely. Then he bent down, picked up another starfish, threw it into the sea past the breaking waves and said, ''It made a difference for that one.''"

It always puts a smile on my face when I read this, and if everyone in the world did something small like this on a daily basis, the world would be a better place.

I love that story... Indeed, if we all think we CAN'T do anything then nothing will be ever done... sadly, to omany think this way... 'oh am too old I can't change'... 'oh I don't see the point as others won't do it'... so many excuses out there... But, what if we think we CAN do it ? we start & do it... Slowly... then, others do it as well & before you know, the waves grow & many starfishes... cows, birds... dogs, cats... are saved & it matters to each & every one of them ! I heared something in the jew tradition, I think it was : about human life's being so import & saint, if you save even 1 of them, you'll be rewarded as that life is a world by itself... I tend to say this is true but not limited to humans... but to all living creatures ! All religions & cultures have some basic ideas & fables about animals & their wellfare... it's tiem to get them out of the closets
