Flies lay eggs in their wool and the eggs hatch and become hungry little maggots that chomp into the sheep and cause hours of agony and even death if not treated. thats not quite true. my belief is, that the flies lay their eggs into poo that gathers around the sheeps back end (it gets rabbits too). the maggots then hatch and eat their way up the back passage and into the animals flesh. this happens for several reasons or usually a combination - selective breeding [as stated by pob] gives the animal unnatural 'proportions' ie too much skin, fat, wool etc.. it is also a reflection of the unnatural environment the animals are kept and the production food they eat(high nutrition/fat) without the effort of natural foraging or miles of walking for food..the animals often are not as fit or are too fat so cant clean themselves properly additionally the poo is the wrong consistency and sticks to the fur/wool therefore encouraging flies. The animals are often static (in case of rabbits particularly) making them a sitting duck!! easy answer DONT KEEP SHEEP FOR FARMING OR PETS!

We don't even dock our sheep. They use their tails to swish the flies away. sorry, why do you kill them?
