Today we went to a particular double mission that is always hectic as we keep running into logging trucks, bad weather & so forth, on our roads. Today was no exception : altho we left our base right on time, it took us a full hour to get to our 1st library, 20 miles/ 32 kms away - the last 5 miles/8 kms took 25 minutes of those 60.... why ? the narrow road was icy as it snowed last night - it's up at 3000 feet / 915m altitude. So, we arrived 20 minutes late.
Once there, we brought books back & forth between the truck & the library, so far so good. But, the truck's metalic stairs had frozen, and as we kept dragging melting snow over, they became quite slippery.
Just a couple minutes after I warned everybody to watch out, I slipped on my way down, and got quite hurt ! my coworker heared my yell & ran to help me up - as well as a cityhall employee. As my head spinned, I went to rest for a bit, with an aching body. I ate a couple cookies, and after 10 minutes rest, I felt I could get back to work.
Once done, we drove to our second meeting, a library situated 6 miles / 10 kms away. We arrived there 35 minutes late, and had to deal with uncarring children & library “personel”. These kids keep choosing nonfictional books destined for adults – one of them even keeps asking for hunting books, yikes- and I usually tell them 50 times not to do so. But today, with the aftershock, I decided not to bother. So, they took all the books they wanted, and we finished at 1 PM.
We arrived back to our base at past 2 ! long long hectic painful day ! I had to resort to a couple painkillers, and homeopathic ones too, to help my pain – some 8 hours after the intial slippery accident. In the meantime, I got some swelling going on, but most of the pain is vanishing.
I hope it’ll be done with promtly, as a) I got another mission on Thursday & b) after that, I’ll be on vacation for 2 weeks & I’d like to profit from them !
If it still hurts by tomorrow evening, I’ll have to see the doc...
Worst part of this is that for the past 3 weeks, I had been feeling I was going to get hurt, but I thought it'd be a burn or cut, so I took banaids with me... I did not expect THIS...
I did have protection, however, including my Ankh chain my wife had offered me, as well as a picture of her on me, my Buddha ministatuette - offered by a friend, and my Amethyst pendulum, offered by myself for a change
Well, it’s getting late, I gotta hit the bed as I’m going back to work tomorrow.
