Yes, I been on a few detox/cleanses. Almost two years ago I went on the longest fast I have ever tried. It was a 31 day water fast. Not recommended for beginners! It wasn't so much to detox, as it was just to see if I could, and how long I could. It was also very spiritual. I did work during the last two weeks of it. It became difficult to stop, actually, though that sounds hard to believe. You do lose your appetite, and you do not start drooling every time you see or smell food. The hard part is beginning to eat again. Once you start, it is difficult to control yourself, but you must go very slowly and follow the directions or you can really hurt yourself.
Physically, my skin improved. I don't have many skin problems, but it took on a glow that people noticed. I lost about 20 lbs., but they came back. The first few days were difficult, as that's when you get sick and headachy.
Juice diets, mono diets, the Master Cleanser, teas, etc. are all good for people to try out for a few days, until they get used to the idea of going without food for a while. Detoxes can be undertaken while eating a restricted diet, but better resuklts are obtained with abstinence from food. You have to pick what you can live with, though. I just can't go for very long on juices when I am cleansing. I lose my taste for anything but water.
Saucy, they are supposed to get rid of cellulite. The Master Cleanser, where you drink a lemonade made from the juice of 1/2 lemon, a tablespoon or so of maple syrup, and a pinch of cayenne pepper, up to about 6 times a day, but no food, might be good to try. Gentle massage of the problem areas is supposed to help too, especially if you crush some ivy leaves and soak them in a light vegetable oil for a few days, and massage the oil into the areas you want to improve.
I like to detox for prevention, and also because there is so much pollution in the environment. To me it is a small part of just maintaining my health. But here are lots of very serious health conditions that may be improved by fasting or cleansing. It is worth reading about, if you are unfamiliar with the subject. Paul Bragg was an advocate of fasting. He's the Bragg's Liquid Aminos guy. He has written a few books about fasting that are easy to read and very informative. Its a good place to start if anyone is curious.
