Does anyone know any good cold/flu remedies? I got up this morning all snozzly, it could just be my usual sinus trouble but my chest feels the way it usually does before a flu or chest infection. I'm stressing about this because we are meant to be going away next saturday with lil SIL & her babby. We've booked & paid for the cottage in full but if I take flu it'll make my ME really bad and I prob won't make the journey . Any advice would be much appreciated.

Tons of vit C (only buffered, like Emergen-c or Ester-C, zinc, echinacea, tons of good quality water, freshly squeezed juices if you have a juicer and loads of fruits and veggies.
Hope you feel better soon hun.

Oohh thanks babe, what does buffered mean though? I take a daily vit C tablet but it's just a cheap boots one & I take Quest Zinc daily too. I can send hubby to the health shop tomorrow for the buffered Vit C. We have a juicer so I'll get hubby to dig it out later, I can get him to make some thick smoothies in the blender too. I hope it's just an allergy reaction to something I might have been exposed to yesterday but don't want to wait too long to find out.

Buffered vit C has a better PH balance so is more alkaline than acid so is better for you and absorbed by the body soooooooo much better. Normal vit C is pretty rubbish really.
They also sometimes have minerals in them such as magnesium so that's an added bonus.
Smoothies sound yummy. Will be round in an hour. Got any mangoes going spare?!

Oh I do believe we have mangos, usually have mangos, pineapple, apples & pears in stock every week.
The buffered Vit C sounds great, magnesium would be good for muscle pain too. Hopefully the buffered Vit C will help with my general sinus trouble as well. I do feel all fluey but this can happend with ME then you can be ok the next day. Good to find out about the buff an all for general use.

Yep......... Can't remember if I told you this before (mind like a cabbage) but the magnesium would be brill for your ME as a friend of mine that had ME was put on a really high dose of magnesium with ME as she had got to the stage where she was in her early 20s and out of breath if she walked up a flight of stairs at home, and was put on a high dose of magnesium as her naturopath said she has a magnesium deficiency which the heart needs. After a few months she was 100% better...... so it would probably do you alot of good.

Yaaaaaaayyyy it wasn't flu *touch wood*... it must have been an allergy symptom... I still went out and got some quest buffered VitC tablets, they'll be handy for taking on holiday next week then I'll source some powered stuff off the internet.
There's a bit of a debate about the magnesium thing tigger. From what I remember ME peeps are deficient but when taken orally it doesn't absorb well. I think there was some medical research done on it. I think the ME stops the body from retaining it well, probably why high doses are recommended. I'll try and get the buffered VitC with magnesium when we get back.

Yay, glad to hear you're better Feral.
That's interesting what you just pointed out about the magnesium. Will ask my naturopath when I see her next week what her take is on it if you like?

Both my boys have lurgy. Bad colds, sore throats and evil headaches, hubbys getting it. I am hoping I dont get it because my mouth is a bit sore and neck is still swollen, so a throat infection would not be nice. Its throbbing a bit now cos the veins are shrinking.....or something
