I've noticed today members, that in talking about some subjects, eg honey, fish oils that our ads are coming up with adverts for honey, fish oils etc.
Unfortunately as the forum is a free board, I have no control over what ads come up, as the ads are what pays the company that does the forum, so all I can advise you to do is click at the bottom where it says click to make this board ad-free, and under no circumstances click these ads as I think they get about 1p per click and there's no way we wanna be supporting companies that sell animal products.

yeah, it seems that the forum-providers expect you to pay them $7 a month, in order to be free of these lame adverts. That's pretty tactless and inconsiderate of them to blight your nice vegan forum with crappy adverts for honey and fish-oil, I must have been simply automatically blocking the adverts from my mental processing, because I hadn;t noticed what any of them were for until you mentioned it.

Yes, they want me to give them money! Actually, that's quite a scam. My webhosting package is $20.00 a month, which is easy for me to pay. These folks can get every member you have to pay them $7.00 a month, to make the ads go away, which would be a lot more than the $20.00 a month it costs me to run mine. If you had 20 members who would pay you $1.00 a month that would be much better.
Though the ads don't bother me at all. I can just ignore them for free.

I know, these people are con artists! They know that no one will pay that amount for each member and had I known that when I signed up to proboards I would have chosen someone else as would pay £20 a month to get them to go. Another thing thats infuriating me I've noticed is that when I paid that company to put me in their search engines they said I had to put a links page on my forum for their ads... I had chosen my category as health as I thought that was close to veganism, but their exchange has given me a page on the main website with a load of viagra ads and pharmaceutical products. I can't get hold of them till Monday, so when I do am going to have to try and get them to change it to anything but that, so just ignore the "other links" page for now, I will get it rectified somehow!

Hi Tigs
I understand your pain & frustration with these ads... not only do we (people in general) get pharmaceutical junk emails, including viagra, enlarge your body parts etc, but also, they try to infiltrate any other place they can... An idea : maybe change to "beliefs" category ? maybe we'd get off the medicinal hook... I say so, because when yahoo had user rooms, I had made the veg*room to be in that category, unlike most people under "health"... I think, when someone is veg for health reasons, they'r not as passionate about it & can change any moment... But when someone has the strong belief system/ personal philosophy, then it makes a personal stand their ground more& become activists, even in "small" proportions. Also, I don't see what ads they could inflict on us with that category... maybe some religious ones ? it's still better than viagra & body modifications... unless someone sees other threats to it ? (such as bigotry from those that aren't religious & afraid it'd escalate ? very valid concern...)
Thoughts thoughts thoughts....

From looking at the page about making the board ad-free, it seems to me that the deal is that if Tiggerwoos (or any other member here) pays $7 /month then 50,000 pages of this forum could be viewed by the members without advertising incuded. ha ! the webhosting for VegansRock costs $5/month, although i reckon that it might be better off with the $10 package now that it's so much larger than it was to begin with. If she did, then knowing our luck we'd probably start being innundated with poxy adverts for books called stuff like "JESUS ATE MEAT - the pescatarian diet and YOU" It's all verrrrry sucky indeed, I reckon.

LOL, yep you're right Astrocat, have just read it and it is per 50,000 clicks so I'd be extremely surprised if I got anywhere near an eighth of that! Sooooo, I signed up went to pay and it said they don't accept credit card payments from outside the USA, so am sticking a cheque as they've asked for in the post tonight. Unfortunately it takes up to 3 weeks for them to process this so, sorry guys, if you can put up with these stoopid ads for another few wks?

The first time I got one of those spam E-mails promising me that I would get an 8-inch long pen1s within 7 days GUARANTEED if i responded, needless to say i was highly bemused by this concept andthe notion that i would find this an unmissably appealing offer (as they seemed to imagine should be the case) I laughed so much that I needed surgery to get my ass sewn back on, and my split sides sewn back up.
