Now I know the Co-op are BUAV approved and have just found a store near me so am gonna pop down this afternnon and get a few bits and bobs like washing powders etc etc.......... but can anyone shed any light as to what aren't vegan or are they marked on the packaging? I have heard the dishwashing tablets aren't but not sure what else. Also to mark BUAVs week, here are some special offers going on till the 30th July some of you may be interested in: www.co-op.co.uk/foodretail/news_article.php?news_ID=359

The dishwashing tablets are vegan, I'm sure. They have a later cut off date though, I think.
It basically says "Free from all animal derived ingredients" on the vegan stuff.

Verdict..... I love the Co-op. Managed to get a few special offers on buy 2 get one free offers on washing liquid, and from what I read on the Ethiscore site, Co-op is alot more ethical than Ecover which actually scores pretty poorly.
Only downside is that none of their fabric conditioners were vegan, so got lumbered with Ecover, but they did have some yummy houmous, which had crunchy bits of chickpea in.
Think they could do a lot better at promoting instore that their products are cruelty free as noticed most people in the supermarket were buying brand names.
A few posters and hanging signs would go down well, rather than just the carrier bags stating they were BUAV approved.

I heard someone say that the fabric conditioner has animal based ingredients in it. I hadnt realised this. Im back on Ecover again. Im not keen on that stuff though. Smells a bit rank.

I like the smell of the ecover one. Co-op one is full of nasty stuff.
Bio-D one is inoffensive, too, and they are good peeps. They have pissed BUAV off though, cos they won't pay for a logo. So BUAV is implying they are up to no good - lovely.

The Co-op where I live is good, has vegan ketchup, salad cream, wine , BUAV approved cleaning and toiletry products, etc etc . And they have clear labels if anything is vegan too. However coz its only a small shop, I can only get about half my shopping there so still go to other places. Thanks for the info ;D

I really ought to use my local Co-op more. I used to have one of their superstores a short bus ride away but it closed down. However, there is a little one still nearby within walking distance which I'd always disregarded cos it looks like some 70's mini mart hell hole from the outside. Doesn't look a lot better from the inside to tell the truth but on closer examination has most of the goodies that you'd need from a supermarket with the added bonus of Co-opy fair trade goodness.
Just had a jaunt and found Cafe Direct, recycled toilet paper and some demerera sugar, which unfort wasn't fair trade or organic but you can't have everything. They also do the Co-op own range toiletries as well.
Made the mistake of walking too near the drinks aisle (which is the biggest section of the entire shop lol) and couldn't help notice the vegan fair trade wine so was legally obliged to buy some of that.
All this and I certainly don't live in one of the posher areas of Nottingham, not by a long way.

Ah, where would we be without Co-Op lol Where I live we have "Rainbow" which is a member of the co-op group. They have a brilliant range of vegan products, all clearly labelled. I love it. And it's only 15 minutes down the road xx

I've tried the eco washing liquid. I thought it was ok, but I'm sure it was unscented.
