Sadly there are so many animals that are unwanted or have been abused sitting in rescue shelters all over the world day in, day out. I do a bit of voluntary work in a rabbit rescue and we see heartbreaking stories all the time If you're thinking of getting a new animal, please don't support the breeder and pet shops, help an unwanted one from a rescue. Here follows a link for a day in a life of a humane society worker: bcrescue.net/long_walk.htm

I agree Tiggerwoos. All my animals were either rescued from a shelter or foster home, or stray. I do admire shelter workers. I can hardly go to donate supplies to my local shelter without wanting to go in and take all the animals out, and then I start to cry before I leave. I wish I could volunteer at a shelter, but I am not strong enough emotionally to do it.
