Have a look at this link, it is from the ethical consumer magazine, click on the 'reports - free trial reports' and click on the pet food one. they also have quite a few other free reports if you are interested. www.ethiscore.org/report.aspx?ID=211603&free=truewww.ethiscore.org/There is also this list from www.speakcampaigns.org.uk/www.speakcampaigns.org.uk/events/20060821george-mars.phpLets also not forget that Mars Inc, who are also known as Masterfoods in Europe, are a manufacturer of pet foods, such as Bounce, Cesar, Chappie, Frolic, James Wellbeloved, Katkins, Kitekat, Pal, Pedigree Chum, Royal Canin, Sheba, Techni-cal (US & Canada), Whiskas. Pedigree (part of Mars Inc) also manufactures Thomas rabbit food and Trill bird food. Mars Inc are also responsible for killing many animals, mainly cats and dogs at their research centre in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. Non-human animals are forced to spend their entire lives as experimental tools, enduring years of research so that Mars Inc can produce pet foods and make millions in profits from sales to consumers who live with and have loving relationships with animals not unlike those behind the walls of the Mars research laboratories. Mars Inc's best selling confectionary products include: M&M's, Snickers, and the Mars bar. Its other products include 3 Musketeers, Dove, Milky Way, Skittles, Twix, and Starburst sweets. They are also the makers of Combos and Kudos snacks and Uncle Ben's rice.

Ive just changed to Benevo from Veggie pets , I was using Happidog as recommended by the Vegetarian society which I am surprised to see rated at only 6 - Burns rates higher which is a meat product! Benevo isnt on the list for me to check.

Thanks for that link Veggie. I'm about to switch my cat to vegan cat food, we'll see how he does with it. However, luckily I haven't bought it yet, so I can check that list first. Perfect timing!

Hmmmmm can't see my cat food on there. I use Nature's Menu (not the nasty Nature's Choice Hills stuff) as that's supposed to be natural, blah blah blah, but it isn't listed.
Would be interested to see how that fares.

I think it just has to come down to your own personal list of ethics , I rate not eating meat most highly, so for me Happidog was more ethical (as in followed my ethics) than Burns, burns isnt a vegetarian food, they produce meat products.
Unless you home cook your companion animals food, and know that single solitary ingredient was produced ethically, including the seeds if you homegrow, then I doubt anyone will find a completely ethical food. sad isnt it.
