We got a call late Friday night to come see what we could do to help a cat that had been knocked over. Poor sod was in the middle of the road surounded by idiots make yuk noises because his eye was hanging out and burst. He was in a right mess but he ran over to our car and got under it. I cleared the crowd with my nad man look and a few choice words ( my reputation as a lad helped) and got down to getting him close enough to get him in the cat box. Since head had ran under the car without a problem it was looking like he had just ran under the moving car and hit his head on the underside of the car. Because of this I picked him up and put him in the box and rushed him to the vets. He had to have his eye removed but other than that he is ok. Feeling sorry for himself and obviously missing his family. He isn't drinking or eating yet but he is al swollen in the mouth and nose so I suspect it is too painful at the moment. I am dripping water into his mouth with a dropper and keeping him hydrated. So say hello to snowy.

Thank god you were on hand to act No we do not yet know who he belongs to and no he doesn't have a chip. We scanned him ourselves. We will give it a few days then plaster the area with leaflets posting them door to door. I have just gone out a got the ink and paper. We are going to leaflet the local area then widen it if we get no responce. We have a loving home set up for him if we can't find his family.

Oh God you're gonna hate me for this but I came to the conclusion that Sammy was not rehomable and euthanasia was the best option. His aggression problems were pretty severe and my children were at risk, he was constantly growling at my eldest son. We were unable to interact with him because of the risk of being bitten so he was ignored for the most part and I just felt that his life was not a happy one so after discussion with a close friend and weighing up the facts he was euthanised at the vets last Wednesday. Sorry I didn't let you know sooner Vaiovegan and thanks for trying to find a home for Sammy. I didn't talk about it because I'm ashamed that I have failed an animal in this way. I've been suffering depression lately and felt I'd come to the end of my tether last week and also felt I wasn't looking after Sammy properly but it was hard when I have 14 other animals needing my attention. None of this excuses what I did but I'm just trying to explain what led me to do this and I hope you all don't think I'm a cold hearted killer.

Aww, am glad Snowy seems to be perking up and playing VV. That's good news.
Maisie, try not to beat yourself up about the Sammy situation. You did more than most people would and you tried for a long time. Some animals, sadly have had such a bad start to their lives it is impossible to change their temperament.
A couple of years ago, we took on a rescue doberman from a family that split up.
Unfortunately despite being told he was ok with other animals he intimidated our other dogs, had the cats petrified and in the space of a few hours destroyed a load of soft furniture and howled.
As you can imagine, he went back the next day, so don't worry. When you have the safety of 14 other animals and your kids to think of, you did the right thing.
(((hugs)))

No problem Maisie we can all see you tryed your best. It is the hardest thing to try help a problem dog and it is hard to find a home for one. We can home any animal but snappers are taboo. It is understandable. Cheer up lass Come out on a camp with us all

You had to make a call and under the circumstances I think it was the right one. Even if we could have found a home many fail maisie and dogs that bite often get pushed from pillar to post. You did the right thing so do not beat yourself up about it. Hope this cheers you up. Little rascal This cat is a star. Friday night it was on death door, Tuesday morning its recking my front room ;D Don't you just love em?

For the cat lovers on the forum I need some advice. Snowy is covered in dry blood but still won't eat or clean herself. Her ears are also full of dry blood clotts.
How do I clean her or do I just leave it until she can do it herself? I took her to the vets again yesterday because I was concerned about her not eating or drinking and she is ok health wise. I am giving her water complan mix until she is ok. The vet says it is because the top of her mouth is swollen from the accident and her nose was affected as well because they are all connected so they expect her to be off her food for a while.
The vet said it isn't un-common for a cat to go without food for two weeks!! Is this right? Still I have been hand feeding her. I have found if I mush her food up in my hands she will lick my hands, I also wipe her lips leaving her to lick the bits of food off.
I know we are all vegans but I just want to get some food into her so any ideas on cat food that is very nutricious in small amounts? I don't care what it contains. I am told by the vet to feed her a food he sells called A & D but it is made by Hills and I would rather not.
Ok thanks

OK, from experience from having a cat who has had part of his ear torn off and from advice from our vet, don't clean the ears. As they are such an extremity, it can cause them to bleed again and then it will take absolutely ages for them to stop again, so you will end up in the vets again! Also, the food I feed my cats which was recommended by a holistic vet is "Nature's Menu". This site will give you the stockists in your area, but after one of my cats had a tumor, I refuse to feed them any of the commercial rubbish. Go for the pouches option. www.naturesmenu.co.ukAlso, dry food wise, James Wellbeloved I believe is cruelty free and nutritious, additive free et, but she'll probably show more enthusiasm for the wet food I would have though. She's such a photogenic cat though.

Mars Inc (pedigree master foods) now own James Wellbeloved I'm afraid.
Ive not ever tended an injured cat, but dogs I have experience with, Id stick the food in a blender with water and make it really runny and as she is more able to eat, blend less until she is managing a normal consistency.
If you are going for a dry food, Burns is cruelty free you can soak it in hot water first to make it as mushy as you need and then gradually decrease the liquid till you are back to feeding just the dried biscuit.
As for the grooming Id leave well be alone until she starts to attempt to groom herself, and then help her a bit with moistened tissued. Unless the blood is blocking her ears at all, in which case I would clean them a little now.
