Late last night I remembered to water my window boxes. I went out onto the patio, bleary eyed, taking with my my "saved" kitchen sink water and tipped it into the (quite high) window box. All of a sudden there was a mad flurry of wings and a dove flew out of the box, nearly hitting me in the face. Given that I was half asleep, its a good job I didnt fall off the balcony. I was absolutely devestated. I had no idea there was anyone nesting in there!. There was one a couple of months ago in the other box but this one must have taken up residency really suddenly. I got a chair and peeked in and sure enough there was a little white egg!. Ive doused both the mum and the egg and probably killed it. She came back eventually and is sitting on it now. I feel so awful. She will probably sit on it for ages and then it just wont hatch.

The egg should be OK. After all, it does rain occasionally, in Essex, if my memory serves me right. ;D

Any news on Mrs Dove and her egg Tabs? Well she has been sitting on it on and off. Shes not there now. I might go and have a peep later on. I have to get up on a chair to do this and its a bit ricketty out on my front balcony. The doves are driving me mad though. The teenaged doves keep flying through my back window and out through the front! Im sure they think its a game. Theyve done it twice this morning. Its like living in Luton airport The first one to sh*t on my new three piece suite gets made in to an un-vegan dove pie! ;D

My eyes are all murky and have not woken up properly read your post and thought you said your tenaged son kept flying through your back window and out the front!!!
Time to go back to bed Tigger!

Don't worry tabs it was probably a dud egg, the do happen & I doubt your drop of water had anything to do with it.
Lavender that doggie is brilliant!

water wouldn't have harmed the egg, it would have been a dud, me and a ex girlfriend had some rescued Bird's , budgies, parakeets and a cocktail that couldn't fly, poor lass, she laid a few eggs(all dud she didn't get together with any of the other birds). it happens not your fault. tabs

I was more worried about the fact that I had drenched the mum and she had flown off for ages, maybe leaving the egg to get cold. Actually for whatever reason the egg never did hatch Although the flippin dove is still in my flower box and all my flowers are dead now.
