Will be taking my bunny down to the vets this weekend as over the period of a week or so, he seems to suddenly be going a bit bald, after previously having a glossy coat. He seems happy and healthy in himself and doesn't seem to be scratching. Just wondering whether anyone else has had this with any of their rabbits or other animals and what it was caused by? Thanks

Thanks, bobbywomble........ vets only has 2 hours worth of surgery at weekends, so will have to book him in for Monday or Tuesday....... was a bit worried it was mites or something as we did rescue him from the woods and all of them were in a bad state, although we did de-bug him, but he doesn't seem to be scratching. The only other thing I can think of is I changed his food a few weeks ago, which may be related, although it is supposedly one of the best foods on the market..... strange. Will wait and see what next week brings at the vets. Poor old bun, told him after he was neutered recently I wouldn't take him to the vets for another year!

Is your bunny's fur thinning all over, or is he losing hair in spots that leave bald patches of bare skin? Sometimes mange mites bite hair off at the roots in small patches, leaving them completely bald. I've never heard of them in bunnies before, but I have seen it in puppies. I hope you can clear it up with your vet Tigger.

Think as you said it's mites, but is really odd as we've had him 3 months, and de-bugged him after finding him with the rest of his flea ridden pals on the golf course, but his coat was really glossy till the other week. Still, will be going to the vets today, so will report back...... poor old Benjy! Is making me itchy just talking about this! ;D

Took him to the vets today, and her first suspicion was mites, however after looking at his fur under the microscope he is luckily just losing his winter coat very messily and it seems go be growing back a different colour, as if he's lost a bit of pigment! Poor old messy, scruffy bunny. She's asked me to keep an eye on him to make sure it doesn't get worse, but luckily it seems to be nothing sinister..... Yay!

Aw, poor bunny. I'm glad its nothing serious. I know a dog who had a hot spot, and it had to be shaved. When it healed, the hair grew back dark brown, and he is mostly white and tan. It was very odd!
