Ghost Story for you....
About a month ago in the residential home I work at, an elderly gentleman named Fred passed away. He was a very sweet old guy and by the time his time came, he had no family or friends left and the only people at his funeral were a few people from the Home. Before he died I was cleaning his room and dusted the top of the curtains. A key fell down. I picked it up. Fred said to me "leave it up there girl. Thats my shed key. I keep it up there so I know its safe". I put the key back and thought no more.
When Fred died, I dusted again. The key fell down and I replaced it. Dont know why. A few days ago, I dusted the curtains again, the key fell down and this time I took the key to the office manager, telling her the above. She said "Give the key to the caretaker" (The caretaker was very fond of Fred). I did this and forgot all about it.
We cleared Freds room out. It was decorated and steam cleaned and a new gentleman moved in, in due course. His name is Cyril. Again, very sweet, deaf as a post and never puts his hearing aid in! A couple of nights ago, the Night Care staff found him sitting in his chair, nearly unconscious with the television and a dresser upturned on the floor. The dresser had fallen on his feet. The bed had also been pulled away from the wall. Cyril is a very frail, sweet old man and it is unlikely that, given the position they found him in and the weight of the dresser, he could have done this himself.
The night staff were really freaked out and everyone thought of Fred. I remembered the key incident and felt a bit strange so I asked the caretaker if he still had it. "No, I chucked it" he replied.
After the fall, Cyril didnt recover very well. This morning the ambulance came to take him to hospital. He was blue and unconscious and Im expecting to be told the worse when I go in tomorrow.
On Cyrils bedside stand is a large alarm clock. I went into the room and said to "Fred" - "Im sorry I moved the key Fred, do you want me to put it back. Move the clock if you do". Left the room and came back about half an hour later.
The clock has been moved quite significantly.
Im not going to go round asking all the Care Assistants if theyve moved the clock. I just feel really bad that I didnt leave Freds key where it was in the first place.
