I went to a funeral last week and it was soooo religious and it didn't even really mention anything about the person that had passed away, so this got me thinking... (steady on now!) I would like to be buried in a biodegradable coffin with natural fertilizer surrounding me and then have a lovely blossom tree planted on top and better still there's a place in Cornwall that does it! www.woodlandburialplace.co.uk/burial.htmWhen ever I try and talk about this to my friends / parents/ husband I get given weird looks! it's such a taboo subject What are your views? When I die I want to be disposed of in whatever fashion makes my loved ones happy, not that I have many loved ones but anyway... I say this because I had no say in my Grandparents funeral. They wanted to be cremated so thats what happened. I wasn't happy with the fact that my mother and her sister had the ashes buried. I wanted to keep the ashes in my house but they thought that was morbid I believe that our bodies are just a shell we inhabit for this particular lifetime and what happens to them after we die has no effect on our eternal souls, however for me I would have preferred things done differently as it would have helped me come to terms with their deaths more easily. I think its something that should be discussed and sorted before someone dies.

I think its something that should be discussed and sorted before someone dies. I have too many comments about this but am about to leave work so I'll do the short version First, altho not from your family, I think you have more people loving you than you know, ie us here Second, I agree totally with you that our bodies are shells & that our souls are beyond what we even understand of it. Thirdly, It is a shame that your family couldn't accept your wishes here, but I do have to say that most people don't like talking about death as in their materisalistic views, it is the end of their existence & that frightens them all. Talking in general is already difficult for so many topics, some of which are tabous, even nowdays. Fourthly (is that even english? lol), they found that "morbid"... aka scorpionic ;D most people are afraid of scorpio's minds... To Be continued....

My family's always been cremated but that's not very ethical these days - don't fancy being buried **hmm, this will need a re-think**

I always fancied a sky burial, but as there aren't too many vultures in this part of the World, I would settle for whatever method of disposal did the least damage to the environment.
There is a crematorium not far from where I live that is trying to get permission to introduce promession. This is a process that freezes the body in liquid nitrogen and then shakes it until it crumbles into dust.
One thing I definitely don't want is a religious funeral. If the mourners want a dose of that, they can go to their own church afterwards. 'spose I ought to discuss this with my family really.

I have discussed this with my family, without being flipant being a biker does increase the chance of my parents having to sort my funeral. although when i get a bit of cash i intend to buy my plot.
I want a green funeral; there is a place in Redditch (not that far from me) that does eco-burials; the body is buried in either biodegradable shrouds or cardboard coffins within an orchard. I have requested no stone or memorial. I really hate the thought of people wasting their lives by visiting my resting place to mourn (or cheer ;D), so if there is no stone this is less likely to happen.
If i am involved in a road accident and anyone puts flowers by the road i will be insensed (erm..if you can be insensed in death ;D)

Ooooooohhhh I love the idea of that ;D My FIL was an undertaker and my mum a cancer nurse so I know a bit more than I'd like to about the body after death I hate the idea of burial, I though cremation was ok until I heard that they have to burn you for 3hrs I keep saying if they could just pour something on me and turn me into dust I'd be happy, looks like that would be the one for me ;D I did see the eco burial on a program here and though it was a great idea. Atm we're not allowed to open an eco grave yard here, don't have the legislation or summat.

Fezza, as you know about cremations can you tell me if this is true, something I heard. Someone said to me that when people are cremated the bones don't burn so are not included in the ashes that are given to family. All the bones are ground up and disposed of separately. Is this true?

AFAIK maisie it would probably depend on the bone density, I do remember something about the ashes always being ground anyhow as they're more lumpy (probably the bone and teeth) than when they're given to the family. Suppose they don't want the rellies getting smacked up the face with a tooth or lumping great wack of bone at the scattering lol

Er, not sure how eco friendly that would be, it takes a hell of a lot of energy to keep nitrogen frozen.

It's supposed to be more eco than cremation, though I don't know the figures on energy consumption.
