I was thinking about this as I saw people getting on and off a bus this afternoon. Many years ago, I was running to catch a bus, on a cold and rainy day. I was just a split second too late and it was one of those moments where a smug looking driver just slams the doors shut and drives off The woman driving her car up the road just behind the bus saw what happened, came to a screeching halt right in front of me, threw the passenger door open and shouted: "jump in, we'll get you to the next stop!" So of course in I jumped and she actually drove me a few stops, to the bus station, in time for me to catch my connection with a few minutes to spare. To my thank-yous, all she did was shrug and say that she was glad that she could be of help Never met the woman before and never seen her since. So, what random acts of kindness have strangers done for you?

I've been trying to think for a few moments. I can think of lots of things I've done for strangers but nothing they've done for me Then my 12 year old son reminded me of last year when we were at the Leeds festival. We were in the moshpit and my son couldn't see the band because he's not tall enough and a guy who was about 18 gave him a piggy back so he could see.

I can think of quite a few, prolly most notably random strangers offering to carry bags for me if I appear to be struggling. Also, that awful moment as you get on to a bus and realise you haven't got the right change, then someone notices and offers to help you out. And then on a train once I was being bullied by the ticket man for not having had time to purchase my ticket at the ticket office - the guy sat next to me stood up for me and even told a bit of a porky pie for me to get me off the hook Then there was the time I fainted twice in the doctors surgery waiting room and a lady offered to drive us home. Too many to think of... It's nice to think there are still some good people in the world willing to go out of their way to help strangers
