I've treated meself to a rather nice DVD recorder (with hard drive ;D) but it looks like the scart adapter on our rather old tv isn't working properly so I'm going to shop about for a new telly.
Thing is it's been years since I bought one so was wondering if anyone had any advice/tips on what to look for and what to steer clear of?

What sort you looking for? Plasma, LCD, Projector or CRT (usual sort). You should probably be looking for a hi-def one if it's expected to last. Digital tuner (analog will be gone soon). HDMI so that the new DVD standard will work with it. That's about it really. Do you have seperate amp and speakers (ie surround sound system)? Or will you be using the speakers on the tv? It's complicated.

Wtf?! My brain hurts now! I don't want to spend too much as it's only a telly and we've a holiday & my new camera & possibly a new lappy to buy (as this one's crap even when it is fixed).
At the bigest a 18" - 21" screen as it doesn't sit that far from the couch.

Set yourself a budget and then buy according to that.
For that screen size, I suggest no more than a couple hundred quid.
Get a LCD, they are much more practical.

Thanks blue I was thinking no more than £200 and considering LCD.
We've remembered that if we hook up the DVDR to the video scart and the video to the tv through the lil cable it all works ok. I was hoping to get rid of the old video in the living room but we use it to chanel cable to the bedroom which is handy for me anyhow. Gives me a bit of breathing space to shop around.
We've managed to save ourselfs quite a bit of wonga today by fixing the things ourselfs so I suggested to hubby if we stare at my sony cyber-shot hard enough it might just turn into the Canon EOS 350D that I'm after... he's not hopeful.

I got a 28" widescreen from Tescos for £150. Nothing fancy but it does the job. They have all different sizes in Tesco and Asda and they're really cheap.
