S'pose I'd better start another one of these threads off and will kick it off with "Stay Alive" which I went to see at the cinema the other night. Based along the same lines of a dodgy pirate PC game, instead of a video tape this time, the players soon find themselves taken into a curse, where the aim of the game is to stay alive and they have unleashed the curse of TRUE LIFE murderer "Elizabeth Bathory." Sounds like a bit of an oddbod film, but was really jumpy and I liked the fact it had a bit of history in, so was believable. Well worth a visit to the flicks. stayalive.movies.go.com/no_flash.html

Have just got back from the cinema from seeing Lady in the water. What a waste of time. Watchable, but slow. Here's the review anyway: www.imdb.com/title/tt0452637/

Hey, am I the only film addict here? ROFL. Yesterday evening I went to see My Super Ex Girlfriend at the flicks. It's a cross between Bewitched, Superman and a romantic comedy with Uma Thurman playing G-Girl! Something to do on a rainy day, but would say wait till it's out on DVD instead of racing to the cinema to buy it. www.imdb.com/title/tt0465624/

Watched Hostel last night. I thought it was suppose to be really grim and nasty but i didnt think it was bad at all. The film was ok, but it took to long to get to the point.

I watched 'Salem's Lot' yesterday. The uncut version. It is an old-style character and plot based horror film. It is definitely recommended, but don't blame me if you hide behind your cushion.
Also watched 'Big Trouble in Little China' today (for the umpteenth time). I love that film, as I do many of John Carpenter/Kurt Russell films. It is so gung-ho and has great dialogue, and Kim Cattrall is hot as usual.

I watched The Last Castle yesterday, which was basically about an army general who went of the rails and ended up in a a military prison and taking over.
Very interesting film. Serious, long, but kept me gripped. Think it's based on a true story.

There was a recent remake, but I have heard unfavourable reviews of it.

I really do not like remakes much at all - this latest trend of remaking all the old stuff like 'starsky and hutch' 'charlies angels' 'herbie' etc is so disappointing - although I have to say.. a .... big 'yeessss' from me on the remake of Charlie and chocolate factory - I loved the way Wonka was protrayed , they just could not of copied it , it had to be different and it certainly was (so Not vegan - I know - we just pretended it was ) I liked him a little 'darker'. I know Im way behind everyone else with movies , but we just dont 'do' cinemas, all those people eating frankies hot dogs or foot longs or whatever they call 'em , shuffling around in their seats .. you know....... breathing etc......... I get the red mist ... ;D Im just kidding

I with you there. Remakes are often really disappointing, I guess we could say they are for another generation, but hey, a good story is a good story forever, right??
I think films these days put too much empahsis on the characters acting 'cool', which incidentally is often copped out as showing no emotions, which is just wierd. If you watch the original Star Wars trilogy and compare it with the new ones, you can see what I mean.
To me, real cool, i.e. being unflappable and in control, are people like Steve McQueen in 'The Great Escape' or Al Pacino in 'The Godfather'. Recent examples would be that bloke from 'Layer Cake'.

I bought my Son a copy of The Great Escape as he had never seen it - he thinks its totally cool ! so I defo agree with you there! It kind of started when I dug out my old board game 'escape from colditz' ;D and he was all interested, it did end with OH huffing off because we argued over tunnel rules LOL. ;D
I think even with horror films, the remakes are naff - the old ones are much much scarier anyway! Nosferatu *hides behind the cushions* I still love it! totally atmospheric, who needs a gorefest? (I must ad that I was not around in 1922 LOL even Im not that old!)
Puffin - my youngest Son bought the new Willy Wonka dvd with some of his birthday money , because it had an extra disc which had games and taught you the oompa loompa dances ! ;D
*sings 'oompa loompa doompadeedoo' *
