Hello - haven't been around for a while. Just wondered if anyone knew of any decent (and relatively cheap) vegan mince pies, and where I can get them from? The only ones I have seen so far are by Village Bakery and the local health food shop was asking £2.50 (or was it £2.99 ) for a box of 4, and being a bit of a tight wad, lol, I really don't want to pay that. Thank you kindly.

Some of the supermarket own brands will be vegan - just not labelled. I think we ate Tesco ones the other day. It's easy to make your own. Plenty of mincemeat is vegan, and most frozen pastry is vegan. This might be worth a try if you feel adventurous www.vegsoc.org/press/pressarchive/2005/bestpie.html

I made mincemeat tarts using the recipe above for the mincemeat, and made my own sweet wholemeal pastry.
Came out rather well, although that quantity of mincemeat will go along way! I stuffed twelve little tarts to bursting point, and still had masses left over.
I think the mincemeat could be improved by a squirt of lemon juice, as I felt it was lacking a bit of acidity, but it is still really tasty.
