Look at the nutrition information label on the side of the box?

Its pretting high in fat. Anything with more than 4 grams of fat per 100 grams is considered high fat, according to Rosemary Conley. I've actually gone off hoummus, haven't bought any for ages.

No reason not to have hummous. Just use in moderation like most things. Just don't buy the cheapest sorts that will be made with cheap oils.

It was the factory that made the hummous that was recalled cos of salmonella.
It's a very human intensive factory - not automated at all. All immigrant (ie poorly paid) staff.
In the toilets, there was piss and toilet paper all over the place. Staff didn't wash their hands or change their wellies between the toilet and the factory floor. Buckets used to scoop food between drums were put on the floor which was covered in spillage (not to mention that it was walked on by boots that had been in the toilets). Finished products were left out of refrigeration for hours at a time waiting to be shipped to supermarkets.
The company makes hummous, onion bhajis and many supermarket ready meals.

Yeah, it's definitely time to make our own. Will have another try tonight.
I always assumed it was much more automated than that. Put the raw ingredients in one end of a big machine, get tubs out the other. Someone puts raw stuff in, someone puts lids on. Job done.
But it certainly didn't look like that.

Wonder if you can make it like they make wine. Try filling the bath with all the ingredients then stomping it into hummous. Not absolutely sure that will be more hygienic than the way that factory makes it, but a bathfull of hummous has got to be a good thing

Its pretty much the same in any prepared food factory. I've known people who worked in a large frozen veg factory and frankly there was stuff which you could get away with calling compost which they used to just shovel away. And the resultant prepacked frozen veg wasn't always entirely vegan if you know what I mean...
In my pre vegan days ie about 1989 I worked at Pork Farms (I was young and innocent, it was easy money etc...) and it was hardly clean there. I had to load a big pile of dirty trays then move a load of minced meat from one hopper to another by hand straight away. I asked if I should wash my hands and they said 'naaah'.
Oh yes, and there was always the story about what one fella got up to with a hole he'd drilled in a big slab of lard, just below waste height...
