An urgent appeal for help.
Mikalis tale.
I was found at 2:00 a.m. on the Mkalles highway in the middle of the road, just lying there, with my hind leg broken, unable to walk even if I had somewhere to go, which I didn't.
Needless to say, I was in pain. And that cruel thing, pain, is not the province of human beings only. I feel pain, and I'm not as mentally advanced as humans to figure out ways of relieving that pain, to go buy painkillers and to call a doctor. I was kind of relying on you for that. And yes, a couple of humans delivered and answered my cry for help, though it was a silent one as I have learned to bear my pain in silence.
I was picked up, taken to the vet clinic, and operated on soon after. Now my hind leg is healed, and I'm on my way to being adopted. At least I hope so.
Mikali was very very shy from human and other dogs at first. Now, she plays with all our other dogs and she is also so happy to spend time with us. She never leaves her cage without her ball!
Mikali is just one of the dogs being cared for in Beirut. The shelter is on the border of Dahye the area that's being bombed the most during the current conflict.
Shelter worker Joelle writes:
"We have a REAL CRISIS at the shelter. Our dogs are literally going crazy, scared, sick, becoming aggressive from fear. Many Beirut for the Ethical Treatment for Animals (BETA) members are risking their lives to reach the shelters and take care of the animals.
We are trying to find places away from Beirut to move as many dogs as possible. Not easy at all with 130 dogs. At this right moment I'm writing to you, some of BETA girls are risking their lives at the shelter with the dogs.
We are in deep deep terrible situation. We need all the possible help on earth ~Lebanon has been isolated from the rest of the world and nothing can reach us, no way in or out (land, sea or air)."

I have heard that Canadians leaving Lebanon due to the war, are not allowed to take their pets with them.
Why do animals have to pay the price for people's foolishness?
BTW, a pet is a family member, no luggage!
This is a disgrace for a country which calls itself civilised. Sending pets to death!

URGENT: Tell U.S. Leaders to Let American Evacuees Take Animal Companions Out of Lebanon
As armed conflict escalates in the Middle East, the U.S. government has arranged to transport the approximately 25,000 Americans living in Lebanon out of the embattled country by way of Cyprus. However, they have callously ordered evacuees to leave their animal companions behind in the combat zone to die. Please "Take Action" to urge your Senators and Representative to take immediate action to allow Americans to take their animals with them as they leave Lebanon. Please also tell a friend about this campaign and donate to IDA so that we can continue our important work for animals.
