Me and my husband are starting an animal rights group in our the UK. It's going to be a hard time but we both feel we need to do this. Request permission to keep everyone updated and let you all know when you can join etc?
Shall I start a blog for the group?
Ideas, comments, suggestions...all welcome!

Great idea. Good luck.
Is it going to be a general AR group or will you concentrate on one or two things? Will you be doing stalls or demos or both? Will you get literature from established groups or will you write your own leaflets and banners? Are you in contact with any other potentially interested people in your area? Are you going to find out from your local council what you can and can't do - such as the implications of bye laws, etc? Do you mind me asking all these questions?

Are you going to find out from your local council what you can and can't do - such as the implications of bye laws, etc? Do you mind me asking all these questions? I don't mind the questions and I have drawn out 'The Plan' with my husband now. 1) Make posters, fliers anything we can think of to advertise people in this area for a meet up. First meeting had to be in a public open place thats central to everyone so we chose the local park. 2) Have the meeting, talk about what the group is about and what skills everyone can bring to the group. Find out a little about people and get ot know them. Pass out cookies =] 3) The first thing we want to bring attention to round here is factory farming and more general awareness of our group so stage 3 is applying to the council for permission to have a stall in the mall 1 day a month. 4) Provided we get the permission work on setting up a stall. 3 tables. Table one is the leaflet table with all the viva leaflets and books we have. Table two is free lovely vegan food and where to get it from. Table three is our first petition! There steps go up to 17, but those are the basic first bits we need to concentrate on. It will be a general AR group but we will tackle one thing at a time while always trying to spread the word about different ongoing things. Stalls, demos, displays and a newsletter/magazine eventually. We will have both our own literature and some from viva. We know the council stuff already and we know what we can and cant do. =]

Good luck. You seem to have it all sorted out.
What will the group uniform be?
Forget that. I was thinking of something else.

Hi, I think local activism is very important but before setting up a group I would see if there is a group close to you that you could support. I think the SPEAK is a very important group to support at this time and we ALL should be doing something to support them. We all should make an effot to go to demos, they are very important. What part of the country are you? I have enough connection to be able to help you out and you never know thee might be a small group of activists in your area trying to get support and allow ther group to grow. Just like you. One other thing we all should do and that is support the UK ARC meetings. It is for us all to network, make contacts and support each other. Groups tend to stay in their own little bubble and local area but the idea of the movement in the UK is for all groups to be one group. SPEAK and SHAC are the main grassroots campaigns running at the moment but there are lots of other campaigns spread over the country. That is good but the main campaigns need us to turn out for them. So next time SPEAK call for support. Turn up, this is the only way to win.
