I've been vegan for around 12 weeks and have got by mostly through taking sandwiches to work and being able to cook for myself at home most evenings.... the few times I've eaten out I've managed to avoid animal products entirely (as far as I'm aware!)
However over the next 2 months I'll be working away a lot for whole weeks at a time - mostly in Manchester but also in Budapest. So I assumed it wouldn't be possible to maintain 100% veganism while away. I don't drive so if I'm stranded out in the sticks in a hotel, I'll have to eat whatever the hotel can rustle up. Eating basic foods is fine for a couple of nights but not feasible for several weeks while doing intensive training, and there aren't many things I can take away with me beforehand that won't go off. Obviously I'm aiming to be vegan as far as possible, but didn't want to be racked with guilt if I had to resort to the odd pre-packed cheese sandwich or face having to explain to a Hungarian that I can't have egg pasta.
So - went out for dinner on Saturday night and decided that if I can't maintain 100% veganism for the next few weeks then I'd better have a trial run before it becomes an obsessive eating disorder. Anyway - ended up having a mozarella pizza. Long pause before the first cheesy bite.... and much regret afterwards (it wasn't even that nice!)
Spent all Sunday morning being sick (not by choice and not due to beer for once!) so I guess my body didn't appreciate the cheesy grease rush.
Apologies for long post.
So - questions!
A) If you've had to go back to diary briefly, did your body reject it like this?!
B) What would you do in my situation? Bearing in mind I can't drive to a supermarket and pick up fruit or sandwich ingredients during the week, and whatever I take with me will go off pretty quickly without a fridge....
