Do they really have no brains? I suppose they're all clogged up with decaying animal matter preventing any rational thought. The reason for my rant? It's a colleague's birthday today and it's normal practice is to buy cakes for everyone. This man thoughtfully asked me what I would like instead. I usually have a bag of plain crisps at these times. What he brought in was a large bag of CHICKEN crisps which clearly lists chicken and milk in the ingredients. DUH, brainless omnis What is it with them?

Most people think vegetarians/vegans still eat fish and chicken. They dont class this as meat. I do get confused by that. Tell him to go to Sainsbury and look at the free from section....

I had a similar experience last June when I was on a team outing with my colleagues. The people who organized everything said to me that eating vegetarian or vegan was no problem. When we got there, we were served a tapas bar style meal with soup as a starter. The mushroom soup had cream in it, so I could not eat it. Two people in the organisation team went to the kitchen to tell them that I could not eat it. I had to come as well and I had to explain what I did and did not eat: meat, fish, eggs and dairy. All animal products. The cook said something like 'well, some eat pork and do not eat fish, others want to have it the other way around' as if it was a big burden for her. She clearly had difficulty understanding me. I did get a vegetable soup that was pretty good, not sure if the stock was lactose-free, and there were some raw vegetables, olives and other things I could eat. The next day we had a breakfast, which went well as I could have peanut butter and apple treacle, minarine and orange juice. The minarine probably had D3 in it, but I was glad that I could at least have breakfast. Then a girl from the kitchen staff came to me asking me how I would like my lunch, which was a picknick, and if I ate bread. I did, but not the soft buns they end up serving me. They have milk in them to keep them soft. I got a little bag with spreads and toppings and there was not much I could eat. There was liverpaté, milk chocolate sprinkles, hazelnut spread containing milk and some other things I cannot remember. There were two things I could eat. Luckily, there was fruit as well and I had brought sesame seeds sticks with me just in case I would not be able to eat anything. I did report the ignorance to the guy that was our guide. In the evening we had a barbecue. When we had just come back from our activities, the kitchen girl came to me again asking about the barbecue. She mentioned a meatreplacer that was based on milk which was clearly on the package, so I said that I did not eat that, because it was dairy based. It obviously did not ring a bell, because when the barbecue items arrived, there were vegetarian burgers containing egg and dairy. I only ate the vegetable skewers, which were good. In our supermarkets, there are not any vegan burgers and sausages. All commercial stuff contains eggs and dairy. The people clearly did not bother reading the ingredients. I think it did not even come to mind. I have seldom seen less food knowledge in restaurants, though I once have been asked if I ate fish when I was still a vegetarian. Next time there will be a company dinner, I will send the organization team a list of all the things I eat and do not eat. I had to make my cousin a list for our family reunion.
