Article in the Observer on Sunday tinyurl.com/2lbq5gSpot the errors in the rubbish written by the dietician. Not too impressed with the 'supplements specialist' either.

Quorn isn't vegan. Soya milk and cereals are only rich in vitamins D and B12 if they've been fortified. B12 is not found in wheat germ or avocado and is only found in yeast extract if it's been fortified. Maybe I should become a dietician. I'm clearly much better at it than the so called professionals .

Its quite worrying that she is a spokesperson for the BDA. If that numpty is their example of the best they've got what chance have the rest of us got with the ordinary Joes?

Maybe she thinks that dried egg white in Quorn is not really egg maybe? Bless her really. I had something tell me today that i was off my rocker for not eating meat and gave reasons why. I was so not going to have this conversation, i switched off. Someone i know told me at work they were a veggie. I was asking them about it and then all hell broke loose. I did say one thing that he must have a sad life if he thinks Meat eating, smoking and drinking if life it self. SADDO

Apparently The Observer are going to publish an apology next week about the Quorn thing. They've been sending out very contrite emails in response to objections from a number of readers.

I thought I'd join in the fun and send an email. This is the reply I got;
'Thank you so much for your email yesterday regarding our recent Health Column on Veganism.
Please accept our apologies for the mistakes that appeared in Jacqui Lowdon's advice. We have notified her of her mistake in recommending Quorn. She says:. "I am sorry. Mycoprotein (from which Quorn is made) is a fungus that is a high quality protein. So in its natural form it does not contain animal products but the brand Quorn has egg white added to it which I was unaware of." The other factual error in her piece was to say that B12 could be found in green leafy veg: this was however a production error on our part, as was the omission of the word fortified with regard to soya milk.
With regard to your second point about her recommeding protein combining, while this might now be an outmoded idea it was her professional opinion and not necessarily factually incorrect.
As you may well imagine, these errors provoked a lot of reaction from our readers and we are extremely sorry for any upset they may have caused. In compiling these pages we speak to experts in their field in good faith and have no reason to doubt their knowledge. However, in this case we were wrong and on reflection should have spoken to a Vegan Dietician.
We are running a correction to this piece on-line next to the article and hope that is has not put you off reading the paper. We appreciate the feedback and will make every effort to check all information extra-carefully in future.'
Like you say, contrite ;D
