I couldn't spot a similar thread elsewhere... what are your worst experiences of vegan foods?!
I bought a packet of sausage mix a couple of weeks ago - it's possibly the most vile thing I've ever tasted. Not sure what brand it was.. I think it had "So" in it somewhere and the packet was red.... I'm getting gag-reflex flashbacks just thinking about it.
If you spot anything that fits this vague description, avoid it at all costs!

We have it in pasta, mixed with mayo and salad bits in baguettes. Its really versatile!

My one attempt at making Sosmix was vile. I won't be repeating it.

I like Sosmix.
There are quite a few products that I haven't liked but I don't think it's cool to really diss a product - because it's good that they're out there, no matter what it is. I wouldn't want to really name any I didn't like - especially as it's just my taste and I'm a very fussy eater. I don't like any foreign food - except Italian stuff like pizza and ravioli, and hungarian goulash pie. I've tried some hot indian type things for example and haven't liked them. Also anything that looks too much like meat. With most products, what one person hates another person likes, it's just down to personal preference.
I really hate rice. Did I mention that? Worst food ever in the world. I know it's not 'vegan' - but, as in another thread, I really hate how airlines give you that when you request a vegan meal. Can they not think of anything else? I'd much rather have microwave chips! Why can't they give us something like that?

What about trying non-hot indian foods? Onion bhajis, naan bread, poppadoms, samosas (though they are a bit spicey) are all great Then there's Mediterranean foods like hummous, falafels, pitta bread - do you like them? I like some sosmix brands better than others.

I am glad there are companies catering for vegan, so I'm grateful for their efforts. However, I still think it's repulsive!

I love making Sosmix sausage rolls The best thing is the kids like them too. I've had some bad experiences with sheese and soya milk although I do bake with the soya milk. My sister in law made a lasagne with sheese and it was really tasty, so I guess it can taste ok Denise

Redwood foods' chicken pieces. oh god they're vile. in small pieces, they're edible but i took a big fat mouthful of one in my curry and nearly threw it back up again. ergh. Also, their cheddar style cheese is vile - especially when you cook it 'a la sal' with cheatin ham slices with pasta - ergh, i'm shuddering at the memory. I don't mind their mozarella though - it's good on pizza in small doses!
Also yuk was a vegan sausage roll i got in holland and barrett. i ate 2 mouthfuls then launched it at the bin.
oh oh and ergh and a truly heinous glass of chocolate so good. It's possibly the worst thing I've ever tasted.

Have any of you tried roasting the braised tofu? We break it up a bit and roast it with spuds & veg and it's delicious

I think it's just a case of everybodies tastes are different. I hate Scheese but love Cheezly, I've even got my omni brother-in-law using Cheezly!

I do not like most of the things from a brand called Yakso. I have tried their 'cheese', sauces, seitan/gluten massala, etcetera, but I did not find the flavour well balanced. There was always something, e.g. sugar, that overpowered everything else.
I do like the Redwood Company products. They are very hard to come by in my part of the Netherlands. One of the health food stores in our town used to have Cheezly Cheddar for awhile and I found it very tasty. They stopped selling it for some reason. Now I travel to other cities to buy Redwood Company products.

Yes Jippia, I love the Redwood stuff too, I have some of their mince in the fridge at the minute. Fezza.........when you roast the braised tofu do you wrap it in tinfoil or just put oil on it? I haven't tried that yet........it sounds nice.

We just put it in an open oven dish sandra, gets it nice and crispy on the outside... it'll cook in the oil it comes in, you can add spices and chillies too but we just have it plain.

I bought some smoked cheddar style sheese! It's not too bad, I put it on top of a pasta bake. I think it's probably best in small doses (like all soya cheese I've found thus far). It'd probably be too strong for a cheese sarnie.
