I noticed today that Co-op's Bourbons and custard creams no longer say they're suitable for vegans. I can't see anything suspicious on the ingredient list, but it says thay may contain traces of milk. I guess it's a cross-contamination issue, but still annoying.

I love custard creams, wow I didn't even know they were vegan before, the co-op near me is crap and never has anything decent.

Noooo, not the bourbons! I work two doors down from a co-op and frequent their biscuit isle for their ginger niscuits and bourbons. Might have to swing by there in a min and check how many vegan friendly packs they have left and clear them out!

Just been to the co-op and they said that they threw the old vegan friendly boubons out (forgot to ask when this was though, d'oh), even though they had the best part of a shelf full, as the new line of bourbons had arrived humph! That's such a waste.

That's a criminal waste. Poppy, I might be mistaken about the custard creams previously being vegan. I always went for the bourbons myself. The gingerbread men are still ok though.

I know, it's rediculous isn't it. Hopefully one of the local homeless people or freegans took them out the bins and had them. Being hopeful possibly. They don't sell gingerbread men at mine I did get a double pack of ginger biscuits though

The TruFree custard creams are vegan, though being gluten-free they probably taste like cardboard.

are the Tesco value bourbons not vegan then?
and how do you judge if they are or not? Because if you say that the co op ones are not vegan now due to the chance of milk traces then how come green and blacks chocolate can be classed as vegan even though it states tat there may be milk traces in it too??
-confused :/

My bar of Green & Blacks says: "Manufactured in a factory that handles nut, cereal and dairy ingredients. SUITABLE FOR VEGETARIANS AND VEGANS." Cross-contamination is more of an issue when the same equipment is used for manufacturing dairy and non-dairy products. The labelling on the Green & Blacks is really a warning for people who suffer extreme allergic reactions. Personally, I'd still be happy to eat the Co-op bourbons. As long as they are not deliberately putting dairy products in them, I feel that I'm not supporting the evil trade. Other people would avoid them altogether rather than run the risk of inadvertantly eating even the smallest trace of milk. It's been said many times that it's impossible to be 100% vegan in a non-vegan world. You have to decide for yourself what works for you. p.s. According to Is It Vegan? Tesco's bourbon creams are vegan. realfood.redblackandgreen.net/isitvegan/isitvegan.php?department=1&category=81&manufacturer=27&item=&ord=Item&asc=asc
