I don't want this post to be seen as any kind of endorsement of the actions of any of the parties mentioned but I think there might be something wrong with UK sentencing policy. A story from the Guardian about a chap who was caught bang to rights setting off to Pakistan for a terrorism spree. Whatever his own beliefs, this was someone who admitted seriously planning on blowing people up. tinyurl.com/2v9stwHe got 4 1/2 years. Compare that with sentences handed out to animal rights protesters, in particular those who pleaded guilty to stealing the body of the relative of those who ran the guinea pig farm. I seem to remember they got 12 years. Then of course there's Mark Taylor and the others. He got 4 years for shouting at people. As those who know of his online personality will realise I'm no fan of his but I truly believe he wouldn't physically hurt a fly. What the hell's going on?

I thought Mark Taylor got banged up for intimidation, threats and blackmail?
The sentencing system is up the left in the uk, saying that the only one there that I think should be changed is the terrorist should have gotten a lot longer.

My understanding is he got charged with other stuff but pleaded guilty to the main SOCA charge. Have to say I'm not sure though.

I seem to remember they got 12 years. No one did plead guilty to stealing the body and it was never actually proven that those people did it. I think the charge was conspiracy to blackmail.
