Tonight , after a massive local campaign against Foie Gras :
YORK CITY COUNCIL HAVE VOTED AGAINST FOIE GRAS !
YAFA supporters demonstrated outside the council offices before the meeting, and members of the public joined in as well as local businessmen who had heard about our campaign against Foie Gras.
As well as the demonstration, campaigners performed a stunt, with an animal rights activist being tied up and force-fed, to illustrate the cruelty behind Foie Gras.
The campaign was so successful that NOT ONE SINGLE COUNCILLOR VOTED IN FAVOUR OF FOIE GRAS - meaning that the motion was passed with a massive majority with only 2 Lib Dem councillors abstaining .
YAFA’s campaign against Foie Gras has helped to educate the public about the cruelty involved in Foie Gras production to such an extent that a recent local radio station conducted an independent poll of York people and found that 90% of York was in favour of a ban !!
THIS IS A MASSIVE STEP FORWARD FOR ANIMAL RIGHTS
York City Council have come down firmly against Foie Gras, the “delicacy of despair” and “torture in a tin”.
YAFA are expecting that this will shortly open the floodgates for other councils to vote against foie gras and soon the pressure will become overwhelming for a nationwide ban.
The election results are as follows
Labour: - 18/18 councillors voted against foie gras
Lib Dems 17/19 councillors voted against foie gras ( 2 abstained )
Conservative 8/8 councillors voted against foie gras
Green 2/2 councillors voted against foie gras
TOTAL – 45/47 voted against foie gras (2 abstaining)
YAFA would like to thank everybody that helped with the campaign
Kind Regards to all
