I have just bought a copy of the Independent newspaper and to my horror there is a double page spread called “The Appeal of Veal”. Apparently there is a newly-formed veal alliance called “The Good Veal Campaign” a campaign launched by…you guessed it, farmers and chefs…I kid you not. This campaign was launched at the "Organic Food Awards" in Bristol yesterday. I am afraid that I am so incensed that I have only got 1/3rd of the way (but I will complete it) but I want people to know about this article and this campaign. If you can still get a copy of the Independent to read it for yourselves, or if you go to a reference library it’s on pages 20-21 (date of newspaper is September 2nd). There is also a depressing story on page 6 about a local celebrity lobster (because he was so old and so large) who ended up being caught by a fisherman and sold to Hotel where he was eaten…the locals are not at all happy. It’s times like this when I have to keep telling myself that good things happen too! Please everyone stay ready to counter-act this “Good Veal Campaign”

Yeah...... they aren;t happy about that, even though they have the same mentality as the people who ate the lobster - the vast majority no doubt going home and stuffing their maws with assorted dead bodies, many of them on a daily basis.
I tried to access the other Everything Vegan topic linked to but was curtly informed that :
:/ ah well.
I did read the article though, and it was much as i had expected - rather biased and tragic.
Yeah, right - supporting and actively making it profitable to exploit and abuse baby cows helps to solve the welfare problem of baby cows being exploited and abused. Also, I am a 3-headed striped-nosed baboon.
I find it lame the way that so many people claim to be "against the production of veal" but still continue right on buying and consuming the flesh and body fluids of cows, thus making veal production a viable option. Assumedly if they are against veal production but wish to continue having milk produced for them as cheaply, they would prefer the alternative option of the baby cows being killed right after birth. Which would involve less suffering and abuse for the baby cows, but is still IMO completely unreasonable since there is no ethically or morally viable justification for actively supporting and perpetuating that system in the first place.
