Advertised on the bbc news website aswell!!! news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/hereford/worcs/6921270.stmA murder mystery evening is being staged by the Severn Valley Railway (SVR) to raise money to help rescue bears from ill-treatment in China. In parts of the country bears are caged and "milked" for their bile, which is used in traditional Chinese medicine. The charity evening will be held on board a train travelling on a stretch of the Worcestershire-Shropshire line. SVR spokesman David Wilcock said money raised from the 10 August event would go to the Animals Asia Foundation. 'Caught illegally' Mr Wilcock told BBC WM that the animals' treatment was horrendous. "By any standards it's barbaric, it's painful for the bears, a lot die from disease, from peritonitis, from kidney failure, from cancers and tumours. "Many have often only got three legs anyway because they've been caught in the wild illegally and shoved into these cages in the dark and that's it. "Their function in life is to provide bile." The Severn Valley Railway runs from Bridgnorth in Shropshire to Kidderminster in Worcestershire.
