Have a look at this to see how much more obese American's have in the last 20 years. Come to think about it, I would think the UK was along the same lines. Worse thing is they probably think they are a healthy bunch of omnis! I don't think so! Click on the launch button to take a look: health.msn.com/reports/obesity/default.aspx?GT1=8307

Having just got back from the US, I can safely say that I saw a LOT of obese people. Not just overweight, but absolutley huge So many people shovelling large portions of McDonald's, KFC, hot dogs and Dairy Queen 'food' down their throats, all washed down with extra large sized fizzy drinks. I saw a tragic sight just beofre I left.. An obese couple with about 5 children sitting in a 'mall'. They had on the table huge portions of junk food and were stuffing their faces as well as feeding fries, hamburgers and soda etc to their overweight (and hyperactive) children. It is a shame, as in the US healthy vegan food sems to be much more readily available and understood, even in mainstream supermarkets and restaurants. Some people just won't listen though, although it is horrible to see young children being raised by parents that seemingly have no concept of nutrition or health.

I dont think the Uk is that far behind the USA now, portion sizes are ever increasing, junk food is the norm - obesity in children is on the increase here. Madness!

Did I hear someone calling me?
Yep, we're a land of fatties over here. It's ridiculous. And it's not like I can talk like I'm some svelte creature or anything. I AM much better than I used to be. Much. It is so depressing, though.
I just ate a Mexian restaurant with a friend last week and the food came out on a flippin' platter. A platter! It was the biggest veggie burrito I have ever laid eyes on. I wanted to cry. I get so sick of hearing about how America is too fat and people freaking out over all these obese kids, yet we still have so much fast food going on over here and food servings the size of the Grand Canyon. Makes no sense! Obviously people don't think it's ENOUGH of a problem to actually do anything about it. And I just mean the people selling food and trying to make a profit.

I went to New York a few years ago. I absolutely loved it. The plan was to do the New York Marathon but I had shinsplints so couldnt. We stayed there for 5 days, saw Pearl Jam at Madison Square Gardens. Just loved it. I was a meat eater then and I have to say the portions were supermassive. I was a big eater then, but I could never finish it all. A sandwich wasnt just a sandwich it came with chips. Just huge! I also got food poisoning there and had to travel back on the plane which was an absolute nightmare for reasons I wont go into

Surprisingly enough, there may be quite a few or more with good cholesterol. Plenty of overweight and obese people have good cholesterol, just as some avegage weight and skinny people have bad cholesterol. In my family, thankfully there is good cholesterol considering how many overweight people there are. In my step-dad's family, a large portion of them have bad cholesterol and must follow special diets and are on meds and they are all pretty small to petite people. I won't go into examples, it's a bit horrid. You just never know. I think some people think there is a direct correlation to weight and cholesterol. Not saying you think that, Maya. Just bringing it up since you mentioned it.

Well I was more talking about what they put in their mouths then their weight. Like Saturated fats. You can simply have bad Cholesteral from heredity. But eating rubbish every day does not help.

You can have a propensity to produce it at a higher rate, or somesuch.
If you are making a distinction to cholesterol formed naturally and that ingested.

Haven't you ever heard the terms good cholesterol and bad cholesterol before? You know, your HDL's vs your LDL's. Most doctor's use those terms with patients. (Easier to explain I suppose) From Wiki: "The largest lipoproteins, which primarily transport fats from the intestinal mucosa to the liver, are called chylomicrons. They carry mostly fats in the form of triglycerides and cholesterol. In the liver, chylomicron particles release triglycerides and some cholesterol, and are converted into low-density lipoprotein (LDL) particles, which carry triglycerides and cholesterol on to other body cells. In healthy individuals the LDL particles are large and relatively few in number. In contrast, large numbers of small dense LDL (sdLDL) particles are strongly associated with promoting atheromatous disease within the arteries. For this reason, LDL is referred to as "bad cholesterol".High-density lipoprotein (HDL) particles transport cholesterol back to the liver for excretion, but vary considerably in their effectiveness for doing this. Having large numbers of large HDL particles correlates with better health outcomes, and hence it is commonly called "good cholesterol". In contrast, having small amounts of large HDL particles is independently associated with atheromatous disease progression within the arteries." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CholesterolAnd I will say there is no direct correlation. My biological father weighs nearly 500 pounds and eats fast food on a regular basis. He smokes, is an alcoholic, and never does any phycical activity. He's never had problems with cholesterol. I have been overweight all my life and obese at one point - yay - and also have never had problems with cholesterol. I have an uncle who is of healthy weight, very active and eats well. He is on meds and a strict eating plan because his cholesterol will creep into the high 600's and has topped 700 before. So to look at an average sized person and assume they have no cholesterol problems is wrong. Also it would be wrong to assume that all overweight and obese people have high cholesterol.

I know I was just bringing it up because what you said made me think of it. It wasn't directed at you specifically. Also reminded me of high school when some girl went on a rant about "fat people and their fat a** cholesterol".

lol The technical term threw me.
Don't take what I said about weight personally, to me it is a logical that a larger animal would produce more of a biological excretion, in most cases.

Not taken personally. It just made me remember. And I would like to give a big shout out to Wikipedia for helping me explain things, because god knows I suck at it. ;D
