Hello folks!!
I had a wonderful time in the US, I got back yesterday morning (UK time) after flying through the night. I had a good night's sleep last night although still feel a little groggy and jet lagged today. I also went to Philadelphia for a few days, somewhere I had never been before. Really enjoyed myself.
I met up with another vegan from the VF, we went to New York and had lunch at the excellent Candle 79 vegan restaurant, easily the best vegan meal I've ever had. We also went to Moo shoes where I bought some excellent vegan shoes and sneakers/trainers.
I found it really easy being vegan over there, the basic supermarkets I went to seemed to have much more choice for vegans than over here and the products were on the whole superior, with perhaps the exception of vegan cheese - Redwood's Cheezly still is the best imo, plus many US soy cheeses contain casein. Excellent products included Natural Earth's vegan burgers and brats (sausages) and 'Tofu to go', ready to eat sweet and savoury tofu products. I found omni restaurants to be very helpful too, the chefs prepared some lovely meals and restaurant staff were very helpful and polite. Soy milk seems to be really popular over there and available in most places, the Silk soya milk was lovely.
As I mentioned, I went to Philapdelphia for the first time. I really enjoyed the place, highlights included seeing the Liberty Bell, going on a bus trip around the city and trying a vegan Philly cheese steak at a takeaway place called Gianna's.
The weather was not too hot over there, which was excellent as I hate really hot weather, we even had some rain!!
All in all I had a really good time, I went to see some live bands including the blues guitarist Walter Trout, ate some great food, saw the sights and generally had a relaxing and fun holiday. I feel really refreshed :>
Hope everyone here is well!!
