meeting of STTSP; a meeting of great importance as it will decide the future of the organisation – and indeed whether STTSP can continue as an organisation.
The meeting will be on Thursday 26th April, just two days after the conclusion Ken Livingstone’s two day trial at the Central London County Court – assuming he doesn’t settle out claim before then; discussions are ongoing. At the trial, the court may order the Mayor to allow us to resume feeding on the Square, or it may find against us and hand us a huge costs order. Contingency plans for the latter eventuality need to be discussed.
As I write, the Government has yet to decide whether to grant Westminster City Council’s application for a bybye lawbanning our feeds on the North Terrace of the Square. However, we anticipate a decision may be being delayed pending the outcome of the trial. If we win the trial, the chances of also defeating the bye law are increased (as our feeds would revert back to the main Square, the GLA’s property, and the “problem” of feeding on the North Terrace, Westminster’s property, is diminished). If we lose the case, however, the byelaw is almost certain to follow and all feeding around Trafalgar Square will become illegal. Again, we need to decide how to react.
STTSP is your organisation, and the more people who attend, the more informed any decisions taken will be and the more representative those decisions will be of STTSP’s membership. The meeting will begin at 7.30pm and will start promptly.
VENUE: Upstairs, Calthorpe Arms Pub, 252 Grays Inn Road WC1. Tubes: Kings X, Russell Square (5 min walk from either).
