Bear Necessities Month
Bear Necessities Month takes place in September this year.
Your fundraising will help bears all around the world:
Bears in Pakistan and India can escape a lifetime of torture ‘dancing‘ for tourists.
Bears in Vietnam, China and Korea from being farmed for their bile.
Rehabilitate bears in Idaho so they can be released back into the wild.
London Abseil
WSPA is offering a fantastic opportunity for daredevil fundraisers!
When is the Abseil?
The event will take place on the 10th September 2006.
If you have a preference for morning or afternoon please let us know and we will try to accommodate this.
Where is the Event?
The abseil is at the Union Jack Club in Waterloo. The nearest underground station is Waterloo on the Northern Line. Exit through the mainline station, Exit No 2.
The nearest mainline station is Waterloo which is also the Eurorail terminus. The building is directly opposite exit 2.
There are numerous bus routes running along Waterloo Road; too many to make a meaningful list.
Please check a bus timetable at your starting point in London.
How much is it?
All you have to do is raise a minimum of £150 sponsorship money for WSPA. The breakdown for the above payment is as follows:
£20 booking deposit , you will need to send this with your reservation form.
£150 minimum in sponsorship. This is payable on the day of the event.
What to do next
Fill in the reservation form and send it back with your £20 deposit to UK Fundraising, WSPA, 89 Albert Embankment, London, SE1 7TP. (Cheques should be made payable to WSPA).
Why should I do this?
We all have to face things we are uncertain about in life.
Use this event to set up resources that will always be available for you. If you can conquer your fears for the abseil, then you can use this experience as a benchmark for any other challenging situations in the future.
You will be doing all this while raising money for a great cause.
You can help bring us a step closer to a world where animal welfare matters and animal cruelty ends.

Canadian Rockies Cycle Adventure
13th – 21st September 2006
22nd – 30th September 2007
This challenge has to be the most exciting cycling challenge ever to be set by WSPA: a 5 day cycling exodus through one of Canada’s amazing National Parks. Join us this Bear Necessities Month; you might even see a bear!
With a total cycling distance of over 375 km (230 miles), this spectacular route races through towering mountains, wintry ice fields and the most amazing wildlife. Every corner turned en route will offer participants the best views in all of Canada!
The excitement of this challenge doesn’t stop there – participants can test their courage and white-water raft the almighty Kicking Horse River!
We are very pleased to offer our supporters a challenge of this magnitude.
Join us today and help make a difference!
During last year‘s Bear Necessities Month
In 2005 our supporters helped by ‘Naming that Bear’. Over 100 packs were sent out, raising a fantastic £5,000.
Many supporters bought their own ‘Fundraising Freddy‘ to show their support.
Others took a collection box and filled it up with coins during the month of October.
One supporter cleaned windows for WSPA in their spare time and raised a very welcome £23 for the bears.
St. Agnes School held a Whinnie The Pooh afternoon; the children brought their teddies in for a picnic and they had a raffle. A very impressive £60 was raised.
Other people organised cycle rides, street collections and sold home-baked biscuits.
Thank you to everyone who helped!
Without your enthusiasm and support we really wouldn’t be able to carry out the work we do with bears.
