Astrocat,
I can relate to your frustrations regarding most people’s “foods”. It is indeed most annoying to see that even with the current knowledge indicating the illnessess caused by eating animal cadavars & their biproducts such as dairy... unsuited for the human being, for so many reasons...
Reconsituted & processed foods, sugars etc... Could be veg but not healthy... society isn’t healthy... no wonder its parts aren’t either.
The organic agriculture is back, but slowly... bay steps again.. with some improvments. It takes time for evolution, when a species is highly resistant to it... Hense, the limited choises... comes also with the facts of polution & mass production... The very few people that can grow organic foods & sell.. takes a lot to get extras... as it’s harder now... that’s why some prices are so high...
The market.. demand isn’t big enough yet.. we all, as we buy organic, send a message that we want it. In time, this demand is seen & then, more choices, prices drop (slowly).
Oh potatoes... turnips.. We also found mushrooms but as they’re so expensive, we don’t buy too often yet. We buy only organic bananas now, and the prices aren’t too bad... around 20% more, that’s all.
We get also some kiwis from time to time & when we do, they’re CHEAPER than the regulars LOL but can’t get them systematically. Good the come in a huge box of 2 KGS... (4.4 lbs)
From time to time we also buy carrots, tomatoes & letuce, strawberries (nex time they come, I want to try the new soy cream... you know, like that dairy one people put on strawberries).
What we get plenty off are vegan burgers & pâtés, spring roles, wholegrain noodles (for the same price as regular ones now), wholegrain rice (cheaper than white LOL), unrefined sugar, BUTTERS (peanut ; hazelnut – even choclated version we just got 2 days ago & almost FINISHED it LOL ; cashew ; a couple kinds of almond ; sesame ; tahini which is a form of sesame as well...)
Tons of milks but I’ll keep that for the milk chat... LOL Also we get cruelty free shampoos & soaps & could expand that soon.
Well that’s quite a list... if I can think of anything else, I shall add.
In the past few days, I’v been chatting about immune system & ways to boost it holistically. Since you raise it again, I’ll make a thread under Alternative therapies & include as much information I can & expand in time.
It saddens me to hear about your low immune system, Astrocat. It sounds really bad. I hope the entries in this topic will help you, as it sounds you’re suffering from this at current time. ....

replies... Astrocat, part 2... LOL
I can relate to the bananas as regular ones have made me sick too... In the supermarket, they are now labeled “treated with” & comes a weird long word... Will check it again & post next time. Needless to say, I read it “treated with toxicity”. Same with oranges that tend to be acidic as it is... why add to it ?!
Not only the subsidisation but also, the water involved in producing animals products - excuse me, I mean killing animals after torture, force feeding, separating parent & child & so forth... (yup I’m very angry aobut all that) - as I was saying, the water involved is HUGE...
Numbers found on PETA’s website are very precise :
It takes 2,500 gallons of water to produce 1 pound of m*. It take only 60 gallons to produce a pound of wheat. A m*-eating diet requires more than 4,000 gallons per day. A vegetarian diet requires 300 gallons of water per day.
So even with no compassion to animals, people should learn this & take their responsabilities as to the damage caused, through their eating habits, to the enviroment...
A portion of society is indeed waking up to these & develop more common sense. People such as you, Astrocat & us in this forum & others. The notions of pollution, enviroment, water consumption, ethical treatment of animals (not just PETA but the larger scale), peace between humans & animals not only humans & humans, stop hunting, endangered species, all are pretty new, still. Same with alternative medicines, “new age thoughts”, spiritual/ phisohpical/ ethical beliefs – outside of religions condones eating animals as they are “lower to humans” - social paterns take time to sink in.
The probelm with developed societies is complexe, but can be resumed to one word : MONEY. The money that the animal industry implies, including their marketting & as I always say, people are bread to believe that the animals bread to be killed is a normal situtation. May it come though religion or the human stupidity to think themseleves superior to animals when WE ARE animals... for crying out loud ! And what’s so superior when the ONLY animals that mistreat, enslave, force feed, tortures, and in the end, kill and sell other animals are... the humans !!!
Um oops I was a bit out of the topic... but, in the verry same way, toxic farming in the part of a sick society, creating new illnesses constantly... Between the work hours, the runing, the stress, the indifference to other humans that are also working, runing, stressing up & also, being indifferent... it’s a cycle that has to be broken.. but why most people don’t ? coz it’s so easy to be indifferent, lock their compassion & humanity in the closet & hide behind their superiority... Just to forget their inner feelings, telling them that they are guilty & that they know it ! (ok am rambling here, i better stop LOL)
Still, to be continued... my replies are on the workds but now, on break, it’s dinner time & then bed so next part, tomorrow...
Till then, take care & I hope I didn’t say too much...

As promised, replies, Astrocat part 3/3
I agree with you, washing doesn’t remove the poisonous waters in which the food had soaked in for so long.
I have to say, most people don’t think about it too often. Between the stress, job & the compassion they locked in the closet, not much left to use to think with. Eating toxic food & dead animals isn’t helping either & I find it to really alter the mind & the thought paterns, not to forget the spirituality beeing squashed. Thus, the human race is caught with poisened lives through the lands, air & water devastated in the long period of the human pride. Sad state to be in indeed.
You have been ill & it strikes you more accutely as you are more in-tune with yourself than most people.
Altho the general state includes so many injust standards of production & human mistreatment, there are changes operating & that’s encouraging. Again, it didn’t take a day to built Rome or any other city. Now that awareness is as its infancy (still), it means that we are brought upon the mission to inform as many people as we can. If only one of them cahnges, the ball will roll & expand with time.
Think I’v adressed most of your message, Astrocat, am now going to read the others’ & respond as well.
