Have decided to start this blog to keep me going and inspired and to show you all what I am doing besides my yoga and the odd bit of swimming to keep fit. Yesterday (Friday 21st April 2006) I decided to start running, after watching a programme the previous day about runners entering the marathon that were recovering from illnesses,(as I have recently had health problems) and I was inspired by that to do the same. Maybe in a year or so, I may be able to do a half marathon, we shall see. Anyway Friday 21st April. Went for a jog........ Mainly interval training 2-3 mins jog, 30 secs-min fast walk for 20 mins or so. Pretty tired, but exhilarated. Must warm up better next time as calves ached, but is a learning progress. Will have a day off running now and do some more on Sunday or Monday. My aim to start of is running 3 times a week (in addition to my yoga) and see how I progress. Watch this space!

It would be nice to run it for the animals though wouldnt it? We could get everyone from the forums there with banners. They could make so much noise that the tv cameras would have to interview us ;D Especially Saucyvegan, the noisey mare.
Womble, you may jest, but I think you should put on your summer womble coat and get practicing.

Can you imagine us all dressed up like vivisected animals with a sandwich board on saying "vivisect the vivisectionists?"

Well, I actually made it running for a change before work this afternoon, which I was pretty pleased about.
Luckily my bf has started training with me too, so we went round a lovely country park a couple of times......... with lakes, hills (murder on the legs!) and rough terrain. We also saw loads of baby bunnies hopping around which was really sweet.
Anyway... in total we were there just over an hour and did about 15 mins fast walking to warm up, then went on to do the rest of 3 min runs up and down all these hills and the park with a minute or so rest in between each run to catch our breath (interval training) so all in all about 20-25 mins running and about 35 mins walking.
Felt really tired but invigorated afterwards and am looking forward to the next time!
I'm also at work at the mo and am watching all the marathon runners coming back through the station on the way home, including a friend and colleague of mine that ran it in 4 hours 15 and it has really inspired me to get fit enough for this time next year to raise money for the animals.
Tabi, how did your husband get on?

Tabi........ and anyone else that wants to run the marathon or start running this year ( I know you already do running Tabs so this prob won't be of any use to you, but may be for some people) this is the programme that I am going to be using for the next 2 months, in addition to yoga and cycling: Is a pretty handy site for new runners: www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

Had a day off running today, but got back on my mountain bike and cycled for about an hour and a quarter down the River Thames....... Much more fun than using the bike in the gym, (but the saddle has made my bum hurt! ;D) At least the countryside scenery was nice. Have been looking at this forum to give me ideas as to how people started training for the marathon and reading other people's blogs. Is a real inspiration to me. I keep thinking, I'm gonna do this for the animals, even though I am pretty achey at the mo! www.realbuzz.com/forumHave downloaded the "So you want to run the 2007 Flora London Marathon?" brochure and found out the date for entering opens in August and there is a 2 month or so wait to find out if you get a place. Can't wait!

Just got back from a run and am definitely doing better. I can see my fitness improving and my breathing technique slowly but surely.
Did a five min fast walk as a warm up then alternated 2 mins of running with 90 seconds of walking for another half hour, then cooled down and did some stretches.
Had a really enjoyable time and didn't feel half as tired as the last run. One thing that is annoying me that I noticed is when I run I feel acid burning in the back of my throat........ Or maybe it was that apple I had an hour or so previous!?

You are doing better than me Tigs. Ive only managed one run this week, although have been to gym most days. Dave finished the marathon in 4 hrs 1 min, so obviously wants to do it next year in under 4 hours. He is hobbling around like a 90 year old this week.

Well yesterday........ even though I had been for a run during the day went for a 30 min run/walk after work.
It is so nice running at that time of night, not too hot and a nice breeze and am now up to 3 mins run and 60 secs walk repeatedly whereas in week one was doing 2 mins run and 90 seconds walk and I am getting my breath back alot quicker.
Yay.... Am getting fitter.
Will be going for a bike ride before work today hopefully!

Went running in the woods (this was after a half hour bike ride up and down hills there) for half an hour...... Still doing 3 min run intervals before walking this week, as opposed to the 2 min runs the previous week.
Did loads of cycling yesterday also so am building up my leg muscles and stamina and probably losing a bit of weight in the process!

Went for a half hour run/walk down the river.......... am doing alot more running than walking now and my fitness is improving....... Yay. Topped with the fact I did a yoga class the day previous and a yoga video when I got back from running, I think I'm keeping myself pretty motivated!
