I am interested in finding a vegan friendly enamel strengthening toothpaste as my teeth are badly in need of it. I emailed this to Arm & Hammer recently .... Hello, I was just wondering if the ingredients in your enamel care sensitive toothpaste were suitable for vegans or vegetarians? (i.e. does it contain any animal by products e.g. animal glycerin, honey, dairy etc) And received this reply.... Dear feral Re: Arm & Hammer Enamel Care Sensitive I am in receipt of your email enquiry below regarding our Arm & Hammer range of products. Firstly I must apologise for the delay in responding to you. Turning to your enquiry I would like to thank you for writing to us concerning our policy on the testing of products on animals. I am pleased to confirm that our policy is that:- “Church & Dwight carries out no tests on animals, nor does it commission any such tests on its range of finished products.” Some of our toothpolish/paste products, (Arm & Hammer and Pearl Drops) do contain Glycerin, which I can confirm is chemical and not animal derived. I trust this answers your queries however should you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us again. Yours Sincerely XXXXXXX Consumer Relations Department I notice they say their 'finished products' are not tested which leaves room for the ingredients to be Has anyone an opinion on this or a recommendation for a cruelty free/vegan enamel strengthening toothpaste?

when a company says finished products this usulally means the ingredients have been, at some point, tested on animals...

I noticed they had Toms of Maine in Tescos but I seem to remember they were bought by some big evil company a year or two ago, or am I thinking of something else?

Feral, from the reply you got it seems they're saying they don't commission any testing but perhaps they use ingredients which may have been tested but not by themselves. Personally I would use that toothpaste if I couldn't find a more suitable alternative and its something you need.

Thanks folks, yeah Toms of Maine is owned by Colgate now I am thinking that preserving my teeth does fall into the medicinal category so might be forced to use this if I can't find a cruelty free alternative. It's not a case of vanity, the enamel on my teeth is so thin I can see my tongue moving about behind them . Lots of people with ME have trouble with their teeth and a friend's dentist said it's because we have too much acid in our system. I do notice that my teeth become a lot more sensitive when I'm in a rough patch. I don't eat acidic fruit and when I occasionally do drink lemonade or fruit juice I use a straw. I'm doing everything I can but it doesn't seem to be easing the problem so using arm and hammer really is a last resort for me I think I'll email them back and question them about the ingredients and ask them if they have a FCOD.
