Noticed for anyone that's interested that this week Tesco has finally started selling the Tofutti frozen deserts. MMMMMMMMMMM Used to get sick of travelling a long way to a health food shop to find it had melted, and now it seems to be in my local supermarket! Also Sainsbury's have started selling a houmous and salad vegan wrap in the sarnie selection. About time too!

I saw Tofutti in one of our Tescos, but I heard it wasn't as nice as Swedish Glace. I mostly eat the choc ice and cones at the moment, though. I'll have to look out for that wrap.

Unless I prepare something from home (a lot of the time I get up too late and cant be a*sed) there is not much choice in my local supermarket for something to eat if I have a couple of follow on shifts at work. My normal choice of food in these cases is rice cakes with hummous and a big sprig of coriander. Then for pud I might have berries and a smoothie. This is lovely but works out a bit expensive.

Hovis bread is labelled as vegan, great for a quick hummous & salad sandwich

So is Sainsburys bread, and they do some organic bread products. Great that Hovis is available all over, though Anyone know which (if any) supermarket's fresh bread is vegan? I really miss that

Don't know why all bread can't be vegan. If it's not vegan, is it what they grease the tins with or something in the bread?

They use flour improvers that may come from feathers or hair (or bacterial fermentation if vegan).
They use glycerides of fatty acids (from oils and fats) that may come from animal or vegetable fat.
They use lecithin that may come from eggs or soya.
Some breads have egg, milk, honey, cheese added, too.
Unless all the sources are listed, or it is labelled vegan it's very hard to be sure where stuff has come from. Might be an idea to email the different bakeries, I guess - I'm pretty sure most prepacked bread is vegan and just not labelled.

Anyone know which (if any) supermarket's fresh bread is vegan?( Some of Tesco's and some of Sainsbury's. Tesco will send you a list if you ask them. Sainsburys won't (!!) but have a list of ingredients in store. Not that that is much help as you'll have to go and check what half of them are!!! When I get more time, I will try to find my lists. (don't buy bread that often as I have a breadmaker.)

I have a breadmaker, too - I go through phases of making bread a lot and then not making any. I will endeavour to stick one on tonight, so I have fresh bread in the morning.

They kicked me out almost as soon as I went in just coz I was dressed as a big white rabbit and they asked my friend "Is that with you?" Talk about speciesism (It was a 'Boycott P+G' demo ;D)
