There normally is a range of taxes when importing stuff from the US. Have you tried emailing them to ask what their arrangements are?
In the past I've looked into buying mountain bikes from US cos they're priced much cheaper there but I was advised that, doing it properly and paying all the taxes and shipping, you didn't save any money.

Thanks veggie but they say they don't know what overseas shipping taxes would be. It's not even about saving money, I want these boots *dribbles*

So I presume that they have agreed in principle to do it but can't give you a price? See link below for HMRC info about importing stuff. Not really gone through it so am only presuming its useful. Also presuming that its the same for NI. snipurl.com/ss5o

I think what happens is if customs feel like it they will bill you for the tax. On the form on the box it says what is in the box and what it is worth.
I know CD-WOW stretch the truth on the form, and say it is a gift worth less than £10, even though you have ordered cds worth £20 or more. They ship from Honk Kong. They are cheap cos you avoid import duty and VAT.

HMRC specifically warn against people lying on the form in that site Pob, so it would very much a case of taking your chances. If you want to guarantee actually getting your stuff I reckon its better to do it properly.
Don't forget legal fans, dodging import taxes is illegal and quite naughty and we at Everythingvegan cannot condone such activities etc blah ;D

You don't fill the form in - the sender does. I know it's dodgy. I just I have seen CD-wow do it. I suppose they could say it was the cost to them of the goods, maybe, and the rest of the cost was postage.
Not sure about the gift bit, though.

Aye they warn you on that site that you're liable for any dodgyness.

Worth knowing that.
So what is the duty on shoes? I want to get some vegan bowling shoes and America is the best bet I think.

It didn't say shoes (you lazy sod) it just said clothes @ 12% but it also said stuff from the US may be charged differently... they can tell you exactly how much if you have the right code for them.
