Just wondering how you bank?
I have been with the Natwest for years, I do keep thinking about changing, but with about 20 direct debits, I never seem to make the time to actually do it.
My Morgate is with the C&G ( i have no idea what investments they are involved with?)
I do have a animal aid credit card, which they get 1p for every quid i spend. (they must make a small fortune out of me ;D)
I need to set up a new account for a new business venture any suggestions??

I do all my banking with the Halifax.
If you apply for a Halifax Current a/c VBB then they will change your direct debits for you. You don't need to do a thing. My bf left the Natwest and joined Halifax due to their disorganisation and hasn't looked back.
I have a savings and current account, plus a mortgage with them, and that's about all the banking things I have.
Not sure about how you'd go about a new account for a business venture. Could always ask the Halifax. What I like about the is they never pressure you in to anything.

how are the halifax with their ethics? i thought all high street banks were as bad as each other in terms of investment etc?
I left the RBS and when asked why i closed my account i told them it was because i was going to a more ethical company the guy said' i'll just put on the form you found a better deal' but insisted, i guess they try to hide how they make their money.

To be honest, that is something I haven't looked into. Just had a quick search on Google and can't seem to find anything. Will do a bit of investigation and see what I can find.

Those links are great, i have seen them before but couldn't track them down myself. (not sure whether i'm crap or lazy or both ;D) think i might go for a smile account. I just changed my insurances to Naturesave www.naturesave.co.uk/they were actually the cheapest quote i had as well. My company insurance is about 25k per annum which i currently pay to Lloyds i am going to try and change at renewal time and if i can they will give the company a certificate to say we are an ethical investor ;D

Nature save looks great - Im particularly interested in the fact they will do buildings and contents insurance for non standard construction buildings , for the future. Once the millstone (mortgage) is paid off , (we have around 10 years to go) or we are more financially viable (whichever is sooner LOL) we want to buy some land and have a log cabin, self build type, home. I did wonder about insurance, so this is fab!

I've got a smile current account and Coop mortgage and Amnesty (Coop) credit card.
Before I got the internet my current acc was with the plain old coop and I wasn't that happy with the service. However I have found Smile to be excellent.
Also, Coop initially refused me my credit card despite having been a customer with them for 8 years, having a mortgage and another credit card with them. I went, as you might imagine, white hot ballistic with them and they eventually gave me £30 for the trouble so we're all friends again now.
Moral sems to be Smile good, Coop not so good in many respects.

I do all my banking with our local community bank, which we started last year. It's run through the Heritage Building Society and 50% of the profits will be returned to local community groups. A branch in Crows Nest has put hundreds of thousands into local groups and provides all the funding for a Blue Nurses car. It's so nice to be able to walk into a bank where all the staff know me by name.

I believe we actually have a credit union in our village. Never used one though (haven't a clue how they work either ). I bank with Lloyds TSB (mainly out of convenience, nearest bank with longest opening hours).....they're okay but nothing to get excited over by any means.

once I either find or get a new passport, I am changing over to the CO-OP bank. They are the most ethicla bank around. Last year alone they turned down £millions becuase it would have come from unethcial companies. I asked them about the interest rates on current accounts , but they dont give u any apparently, but seeing as I never have any in it anyway its not too much of a problem.lol.

Here's a link to a breif report from Ethiscore. www.ethiscore.org/report.aspx?ID=250073&free=trueYou might be able to get the back issue with the full report in. Also, and I'm really not at al sure about this but I think Nat west may be Huntingdon Life Sciences banker but others will prob be able to shed more light on this.
