Very useful info, have been meaning to look for a guide like that to buy, but don't need to now! Thanks Peaceandglitter. Should start writing emails to the companies that do test explaining my disgust!

Just looking at the list to check paul mitchell hair products still were on the do not test list,
Noticed a few 'suprise' ones there like Nivea and Clinique and Revlon and Wella - i always thought they tested so avoided them, prehaps they get others to test?
Its so hard to find what is vegan - i drive my friend who works for Clarins mad trying to find out whic clarins are vegan!
Does anyone know about the Tigi range by toni and guy, website says they dont test but its so hard to get an answer!

I have just recieved this detailed reply from Clinique:
Dear Ms. Townsend
Thank you for taking the time to contact us and for your interest in Clinique.
With regards to your e-mail, we wish to advise that Clinique Laboratories, Inc. does not test products on animals, nor do we ask others to conduct animal testing on our behalf.
The products manufactured by Clinique Laboratories Inc. are produced under a stringent quality control system. Product quality and integrity remain paramount as we aim to exceed the high expectations of our customers worldwide.
Furthermore, very few animal derived raw materials are found in Clinique products. Animal ingredients are used only when their efficacy cannot be duplicated by any other source of ingredients. When an ingredient can be obtained from either animals or plants, we use the plant derived material.
As you may know, our product line is quite extensive. Therefore, in order to respond to your inquiry, we need to know the exact name and shade (if applicable) of the product(s) which you use or would be interested in using.
In order to help you with this matter, we kindly suggest that you visit you nearest Clinique counter where one of our representatives will be happy to demonstrate our products so that you can decide which ones are right for you. We will then consult our laboratories and share our findings with you.
We trust that the above addresses your concern directly. Please do not hesitate to contact us again if we can be of further assistance.
Sincerely
Gerald Cool Consumer Communications
A prompt and detailed reply, the range is expensive but i was interested in the foundations, i think clarins are a less 'chemical' company but was pleased to get a reply!

I think this might what you're looking for bunkie www.caringconsumer.com/resources_companies.asp. Although I don't use peta's recommendations as I'm not sure how cruelty free they actually are. They state Which makes me think that there are companies listed who do carry out tests that are required by law i.e. for new ingredients. They don't seem to consider the parent company either, they have the body shop on there even though they're owned by L'Oreal Personally, I prefer to trust the naturewatch list as they are a lot clearer regarding their guidelines www.naturewatch.org/shoppingguide/index.asp
