I'm a newbie vegan and when I decided to take this path I felt that givng up dairy products would be hard and milk was top of that list. I tried soya milk first and loathed it. I then tried provamel rice milk and that was ok but I wasn't happy, oat milk was ok to but too oaty ;D.... I then tried Rice Dream and I've never looked back and can honestly say that I couldn't go back to drinking dairy milk. Rice Dream with added calcium is the only milk I use now and hope that they never delete the product!! What are your preferences?

I've never liked soya milk to drink and never tried any of the alternatives like rice milk cos I don't really have the need for it as a rule.
I must say that if I ever do have any in I do like a nice organic G+B cocoa and usually use Provamel in the small cartons. I get the non sweetened version so I can use it for cooking as well.

I found soya milk takes a bit of getting used to but that was years ago and I've never looked back

Couldn't agree more- vanilla rice dream is my preference, makes the coffee all posh and starbucks-y ;D plus, when used in all other circumstances its just lurvely - i have quite possibly the sweetest tooth i know- i actually have to remind myself to eat savoury stuff, but, back to the subject in hand- i usually end up just getting my dad get fresh alpro (easier to describe its location - he needs help in his old age, bless him), but then a multitude of profanities inevitably ensue as impatience leads to curdled coffee "it's still good, it's still good!" Anyone tried that Alpro light stuff yet? Ali

I switched from Tesco's sweetened soy to rice dream, it's great but it doesn't keep me full after my cereal like the soy did.

Well here's the 'veggie verdict' on Rice Dream. Hmmm, not sure. Hopes were high when I tried a little cold and it tasted nice so I think its the one I'd have on a cereal. But I don't eat cereals. Its a bit weird and translucent though and it didn't make the best cocoa so I think I'm back to the soya milk if I'm going to reawaken my cocoa habit.
Can't see it doing mashed potato so well either.

Soy milk, vanilla flavoured. That's the only thing they make around here.

I actually love Rice Dream, but the only reason I now drink Soya is cos of the B12 content, but like both equally. I get the Alrpo chilled version or SoGood chilled soya as I can't stand other soya milks. Oh yeah and choccie soya milk is even better!

I buy Alpro soya. I've started buying organic Alpro as the non-organic contains maltodextrin (EVIL!!!)

I can't find any info against maltodextrin online but I avoid it because its similar to sugar and I also avoid sugar. A friend told me that maltodextrin is pure carbohydrate that metabolizes like sugar. Alpro add it to stop those thick blobs forming but its not necessary if you just shake the carton.

Red Organic Provamel Unsweetened Unfortified on spesh at 99p in the UK at the moment. The Rolls Royce of milk substitutes. imo.

Plamil Organic one in a black carton is very nice - quite expensive, but twice as many beans in as all the others (14% versus about 7%).
Not easy to get so I generally drink ones that are Soya beans + water (+vitamins and calcium if not organic). As far as I can tell they are all made by Granose (same ingredients, nutritional breakdown), but mostly they are branded by the supermarket. Asda organic one is very good value for money.
I can drink soya milk neat - only thing is I find it slightly filling, and not thirst quenching. Soya milk and bourbons or ginger nuts is yummy.

was never a fan of dairy milk, so don't miss it at all. I occasionally have soya milk (provamel sweetened usually) on cereal but not often.
As a rule i don't buy soya milk, if i do i use a bit then end up throwing the rest. I never tried any of the other alternatives.

Alpro or So Good. Sweetened, I've tried unsweetened, but it just doesn't taste as nice . I never liked dairy milk as a drink, but I love drinking soya milk now.
