As alot of you probably all know alot of valuable nutrients and enzymes are destroyed within minutes of cutting a piece of fruit or a vegetable.
Has anyone ever done any raw food or juicing days or weeks and how have they felt after doing them. Tired, energised, cleansed etc.
Any yummy raw food recipes you can recommend?
Also would anyone be interested in doing a raw food day or two in the near future?

OK. I started this topic quite a while back when we only had about 10 members here, and after doing a bit of reading about it am going to get some recipes together and try and go raw for a little bit in the near future or as near raw possible.
Anyone want to join me for moral support or got any recipe ideas?

Ok I've got a "recipe" right here from a demo I went to the other weekend. It was a short demo, as it was in the midst of a literary festival. BTW, Blueshark and I are both planning on eating raw foods only this upcoming weekend. If anyone is interested in doing it as well, and providing support that would be great. There is a discussion started over at his forum (www.veganverse.com). (Am I allowed to plug that in?)
Corn Salad with Cilantro Dressing: Salad 4 fresh corn cobs, stripped 1 diced red bell pepper 1 avocado, cubed Dressing 1 minced garlic 1 small onion 1/2 Jalapeno pepper 1 small bunch cilantro 1 lime, juiced (heehee) 1/2 tsp sea salt (or to taste) 2 tsp Flax or Olive Oil 1/2 tsp Cumin powder
In a medium bowl, combine the corn, red bell pepper and avocado. Set aside. In a blender or food processor, combine the dressing ingredients. Pulse until the cilantro is finely chopped. Mis the dressing with the salad.
(I had a taste of this at the demo and it was good, however definitely needed to go with something. It was more like a chunky sweet salsa.)
This is quite easy to whip up, providing you have a blender or food processor, and also quite basic compared to other raw food recipes I have been looking at this week. I'm in the midst of trying to decide what my menu will be this weekend.

Or, I should also put this in www.rawteacher.comThe site has classes for certification and all that (America only), but it has loads of recipes on there. Lots looked so good! ;D They have retreats on there as well, I wish I could go. Awesome, Tiggs, can't wait for the weekend. Sharky had mentioned 10 days first, but was told by some people that a weekend would be better to start off with. It may be nice to do raw foods for a number of days each month. We'll see how it goes.

True as I think with ten days initially your body can have a herx reaction from all the detoxing.
Have you seen the message boards on the website you recommended?

Not yet Tiggs. Hopefully I can have a look tomorrow and plan out my food and then go get it all. I have to work all day Friday, then go straight to babysitting. I suppose I could buy the stuff Saturday morning, but I want to have it on hand straight away.

Paul was kind enough to PM me some recipes. I'll go ahead and post them now. Of course I procrastinated last night and didn't get anything done myself. Luckily I have plenty of fruit to get me by for tomorrow morning, then I can go to the grocery store for the rest of the goods. Quick & Easy Fruit Salad Special thanks to Sharon T. VegigranThis lovely salad is very simple, and as with many raw foods, the presentation speaks for itself. Children see platters such as these and dig right in - naturally knowing what is best for them! Cut up the following: lettuce bananas pineapple dates Arrange the ingredients on a platter. A multi-tiered plate always adds to the presentation! Blend some of the pineapple and bananas for the dip/dressing! Sunset pudding Special thanks to Shazzie at Shazzie.com
2 bananas, peeled 1 mango, skinned and stoned 10 strawberries 2 dates, stoned (optional, because this is a very sweet pudding) Chop the dates. Put everything in a food processor and blend until it looks like a pudding. Coconut drink Special thanks to Shazzie at Shazzie.com
1 banana Half a coconut and all its water Half a lime An inch of fresh vanilla 2 oranges Juice the oranges and lime and add the juice to the blender. Add all other ingredients to the blender and blend until smooth. Either strain or drink as is. If you have a juicer, juice the coconut and banana, and add the juice to the mixture, stirring back in as much pulp as you like for the consistency you desire. There are a couple of soups he PM'ed me as well, which I can post here if anyone wants. I'm not a fan of cold soup, so I most likely won't be trying those.

I think it's time I buy a real blender as well. I've only got a small personal sized one simply for smoothies. Yay! Shopping for kitchen gadgets is fun. ;D Too bad I have nowhere to store it.

How did you get on today with the planning? Started my raw a bit early and took the blender in to work and have been making smoothies all night!
Currently on a blueberry, strawberry, raspberry and apple one.
Think I'm all fruit and vegged out. ;D
So far I've had:
Raspberry, strawberry, apple and banana smoothie
Raspberry, strawberry, blueberry and apple smoothie
MMMMMMM, so good, and surprisingly filling.
Am craving something savoury though.

LOL Tiggs - just reading that makes me feel all smoothied out. ;D Had work and then babysitting - just got home not long ago. So I am doing all fruits for breakfast tomorrow and will then pick out some recipes and get to the store. Not sure what I'll do when I have to babysit tomorrow night. I'm just going to do tomorrow morning to Sunday evening. Hopefully I don't get a massive headache in there somewhere. Good for you for doing so well so far!
