I thought it might be useful to create a list of local veggie/vegan shops and cafes, wherever you are in the world, so that other members can find out about places close to them, or somewhere they may be visiting. I'll start... Soundbites, Derby, England, UK This is a small vegan and organic shop/cafe. It's packed full of fresh organic veg, meat and dairy alternatives, nuts&seeds etc, with a small cafe area at the back. As you can see on their website, they also keep customers up to date with local events, organisations etc. www.soundbitesderby.org.uk/Screaming Carrot, Nottingham, England, UK I've just been informed about this place by another member on another thread, so i havn't yet had the chance to visit, but i have found their website: www.screamingcarrot.co.uk/Alley cafebar, Nottingham, England, UK I actually had a flyer for this place shoved in my hand whilst walking through Nottingham not long ago, so it's quite possibly newly opened. "fully licensed vegetarian and vegan cafe bar serving food and drink (eat in or take out), day & night." www.alleycafe.co.ukThis website lists some other local places: www.veganvillage.co.uk/accommod.htm

What a brilliant idea for a thread Dream, and I love the look of all these companies......... is making me hungry! I live just outside London and there isn't much else where I live apart from the Veggieburger option in Wetherspoons or a jacket potato with beans in The Bakers Oven.... not too inspiring so generally travel into Central London. Here's some of my favs: Eat And Two Veg, 5 minutes walk from Baker Street Underground Station, in Marylebone High St catering for veggie and vegan food from many nationalities, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Quite a trendy place and the drinks menu, especially their juices are delicious. www.eatandtwoveg.comIndian Delhi, opposite Hounslow West Underground Station. Veggie (and alot of vegan) South Indian food serving ready to order food or a cheap buffet from 12-3pm and 6-9pm daily for £3.99 eat as much as you like. No website, but cross the road when you get out the station and is a few shops away on the left. Govindas is a Hare Krishna restaurant in Soho, near Leicester Square Underground Station, serving veggie and lots of vegan food at cheap prices. Simple, but yummy and good portion sizes. 10 Soho Street, London, W1D 3DL. Tel: 0871 3328021. Open Monday to Saturday, closed Sundays from 12pm to 8pm. Also offer a Thali style buffet for under £5.

I was in London Feb and tried to visit as many vegan eating places as poss as its so good being vegan in London! I loved a place called Beatroot in Berwick street by a market (their vegan choc cake was the best!) a veggie buffet place in Portabello market the chain of vegan Tai buffet places found one in Greek street and one in Camden - lots of 'mock' meat dishes that were very tasty and tofu dishes. £5 all you can eat Neals yard in Covent garden - the juices were great and the choc muffins yummy. Want to try eat and 2 vege and pogos next time! Alison

Went to Veggie-World which is in Bletchley, Milton Keynes yesterday with my mum, and yes Chenli if you are reading this is a good place to go for your 18th birthday as is yummy. It's Chinese and the food is 100% vegan.......Yay! and not greasy and oily like alot of Chinese food. We had 2 meals (veggie curry, veggies and rice) and 2 drinks for under a tenner which was really cheap and definitely worth a visit. For more details, visit the site at www.veggie-world.com and click on the logo on the left side, the right will take you to their wholesaler. Worth a visit.

Looks good Nicola.
Went to one of my fav restaurants yesterday. It's called Indian Delhi and is opposite Hounslow West Underground Station on the Piccadilly Line.
It's all veggie food with mainly vegan options and they have a set menu, but buffet from 12-3pm and 6-pm for £3.99. Mmmmmmmmmm yummy. Open every day till 9pm. If you get to the station, cross the road, it's just opposite, and sooooo cheap.

The Alley Cafe has been open in Nottingham for years dream, so they're well practiced in providing yummy snacks. Not entirely vegan but probably 75% of their stuff either is or can be made vegan. Only downside is its upstairs so no wheelchair access. Also recommended is the Balti House in Nottingham www.thebaltihouse.com/ They are unusual as they do state which of their dishes are vegan on the menu and theres plenty of them too and its very nice. Also Squeek www.vegout.info/restaurant2.php?Postcode=NG1%203AG&Name=Squeek who used to be 100% vegan restaurant but I've not been there for a long time so not sure it still is. In Leicester there's Current Affairs on Loseby Lane, nice litle veggie shop with take away sandwich and pies etc. That'll do for now ;D

Lunch out today to celebrate National veggie week with members of both Lichfield and Birmingham veggies/vegan groups - 20 people went.
Ate here:http://www.khazanarestaurant.co.uk/
Superb food about 30 selections on the buffet only 6 were not vegan, when asked about vegan puds - none out on offer but swedish glace was produced all the food was so fresh and tasty - excellent range of dishes to try, and very helpful staff - explaining all the dishes and which dishes went well together.
£9.99 for lunchtime buffet, dont know how i missed this its been open 18 months, the first of many visits im sure!

Have found a vegan friendly cafe in Worcester today Charlies in Sidbury, it does serve meat but does all day vegan breakfasts and vegan gluten free dishes like chillies and casseroles and nut roasts - even the gravy is gluten free! Owner is not vegan but is intollerant to wheat and her daughters veggie moving towards vegan A friend mentioned this place to me so glad they did! Had a fab slice of choc cake - she is going to make the next one wheat free. Have to say its one of the best choccy cakes ive had - really soft and rich and scrummy ;D One well stuffed and happy alison

Ok, this may not exactly be LOCAL (far from it) but may be of use to some travelling folk - I'm just back from a break in Helsinki (Finland not being the most renowned veggie-friendly country, but due to romantic reasons i cope :-D )anydoodles, on this visit, i found an excellent veg*n market stall/shop in the old market hall (next to the estonia ferry port), there we go, knowledge shared

Went to Vita Organic last night and it was delicious. Everything is health foods and they have a raw menu, but it certainly isn't boring. We had the buffet which was any 7 dishes out of a choice of around 12, mainly curry or tofu based, some fresh smoothies and I had a ginger cake. The place is a little small, but cosy and will be making loads of return journeys there now. It's at 74 Wardour St, near Leicester Square tube and well worth a visit. Not bad prices either. It came to £27 between us for a massive plate each, juices, and cake. www.vitaorganic.co.uk
