I am going camping in France in a couple of weeks and wondered if any of you had some tips about what kinds of foods to pack/cook....this is the first time I have been camping since becoming vegan. Also vegan hill food, as we will be doing a lot of walking. Thanks!

I could do with some ideas for this myself. I normally take pot noodles, 3 minute noodles, cereals, stuff to make sarnies, fruit, disposable barbie and veggieburgers. Theres got to be some better ideas.

Thanks Maisiepaisie it is also difficult when I can't rely on a freezer...or finding veggie stuff in France! I thought about taking tins of beans/lentils etc to make stews....I will let you know if i discover anything more inspiring!

Tins are rather heavy. Some of those 'boil in the bag' camping meals are vegan although not many. They're also expensive and there's not usually very much.
Some Beanfeast packet things are vegan too and are very lightweight. You could knock up a reasonable dinner with those and some instant noodles.
One of the problems in France is that veggie food on the hoof is difficult to find. I would suspect that French bread is probably made with lard, if not you can buy this as you go along.
Veggie burger/sosage packet mix is available and gets round the need to keep them frozen and again saves weight.

That's really useful Veggiesosage....I had forgotten about the dried burger mixes bcs i don't often eat them. they have the advantage of being able to take just what you need out of the packet. Noodles are a good idea too...with stir fry as i should be able to get fresh veg.

Wabbit is our resident French person, he might be able to advise you on vegan brands to look out for.

This page - www.veggiesnow.org/articles/289.html - has a list of some french vegan products. Quick-cook rice, red lentils and quinoa should be quite lightweight and easy to cook with. Chuck in some stock cubes and locally bought wine and vegetables and you'll be all set.

Some Beanfeast packet things are vegan too and are very lightweight. I think beanfeast farts are really anti-social if you have to share a tent just a thought ;D

I think that's a brilliant idea.
VBB, I think she meant the summer that's still to come (August), not the summer that's already gone (April).
